Can you speak to how EPP relates to organised religion?
Josef Mattes
36:21
EPP, existential psychotherapy, mindfulness&acceptance?
Reece Coker
37:07
I believe that subjects such as epoche fit beautifully into PP - together with the Delphic maxims and much from the Ancient Greeks...
1539416
37:51
As an ancient Greek, thank you for your compliment
Josef Mattes
38:09

Kimberley Wakefield
49:25
He has a true gift
Matthew Smith
49:43
I can imagine if this were part of a MAPP weekend, we'd have a breakout session where you all give your own take on this way of thinking on this... how YOU make sense of it!
تغريد / Tag Saab
49:50
Change your sense of existence; does this refer to passive vs passionate
Josef Mattes
49:55
mindfulness comes from Buddhism, and that certainly is existential
Nikki Ayles
49:56
That's what I was thinking too Janice - hence my mention of Neff above :-)
Nicola Morgan
50:03
...and is a gift

@Nicola 🥰
Urszula Wolski
50:44
Missing seeing everyone in person, but great that we can come together online

51:05
Yes I agree, I think compassion is fundamental to the concept of existence ( maybe that is just my meaning making!)

I'm pondering on potential 'differences' between, say, a view that is EPP and an emphasis that is PEP

51:50
Positive Existential Psychology...?
Martin Hewitt
52:04
I have just scanned to 2010 article by Wong and he quotes Camus and Tillich . Any links to Kierkegaard which I would have thought might be fruitful? Isn't there an underlying question about the ethical underpinning where, of all the existentialist philosophers, Kierkegaard is (arguably) the most hel;pful here?
Matthew Smith
52:16
Caught yourself out ;-)
Matthew Smith
53:24
10 year cycle? Daily cycle?? :-P
Edward Midson
53:24
Without self compassion we may lack the gateway for really looking within. Can we get to “being” without really exploring self-acceptance?
Nikki Ayles
53:51

Sareena

In PP we can explore these activities (savouring

54:15
State of flux...
Edward Midson
54:42
There can be fear within that question
Edward Midson
54:54
Maybe I’m projecting lol
Janice M Devon UK
55:37
Looking for meaning can reduce PWB but possibly has to be borne on the way to existential growth?
romy’s iPhone
55:45
I’d ask can I live authentically in the space of becoming in the polarity of not knowing...

55:49
When we accept then we are being positive, appreciative, grateful
Matthew Smith
56:07
Yes Tag... agree

'Being and becoming...' Trust the Process anyone?
Reece Coker
57:18
"It has gradually become clear to me what every great philosophy up till now has consisted of – namely, the confession of its originator, and a species of involuntary and unconscious autobiography; and moreover that the moral (or immoral) purpose in every philosophy has constituted the true vital germ out of which the entire plant has always grown" Nietzsche
Matthew Smith
57:34
As Annie Lennox sang... "Why...?"
Reece Coker
57:35
We all become our own biography!

As usual, this brings me back to the thought of our embodied selves; the importance of the body!
Sarah Monk
01:05:08
Paul Wong is quite open about his religion and I think it deters some people. My view of God is very different from my catholic upbringing.
Edward Midson
01:05:35
Awe - a bit of a favourite positive emotion of mine… I think it quickly links me to transcendent vibes
romy’s iPhone
01:05:53
maybe it’s in the asking of the question, we are creating space for the possibility
Nikki Ayles
01:05:53
Indeed Nicola - and the importance of the links both ways - the impact of mind on body and body on mind
Sarah Monk
01:05:57
I agree Piers

01:06:28

01:06:52
interesting question..looking forward to Piers answer
Sareena
01:07:10
Interventions may just be activities without our true desire to do them or them being truly purposeful for us - that’s EPP. Strengths are just words with out us really wanting to discover them. Interventions can’t be prescribed to feel transcending or helpful.
Theresa Jauregui
01:07:16
Agree Nikki
1539416
01:07:21
spiral dynamics describe transcendence of self into higher states and the realization of nothingness, deleting our identities bring us closer to high states of consciousness (god, infinite consciousness, love)
Sumaera Hasan
01:07:44
I totally agree with Piers, no one has monopoly!!
Sarah Monk
01:07:58
Agreed Sumaera.
Sareena
01:07:59

talking about passive and passionate living makes me wonder what kind of living is taking place during the global lockdowns, and what is the long term impact from PP aspect
Helen Chilvers
01:09:09
Spiral dynamics explains it well I agree with 1539416
Kate
01:09:16
Perhaps - whatever people believe or recognise for themselves - we might say the divine is in a;; of us - be it in being moved by nature or connecting with others …etc

If I pop out the participants box, there's a three dots menu that gives you raise hand option
Martin Hewitt
01:11:40
obs: Camus was not a believer, yet surely was searching for an underpinning and explanation of existence. Is not the problem that all to often we want "happiness" or a "better life" and interventions to enable it without a thought out philosophical/religious underpinning which helps us to understand what transcendence and suffering etc are all about.
