Hello! Beverly Mann with DOH, CMS, Title V Program, Tallahassee Florida.
Pam Kissoondyal
01:29:29
More engagement with families/parents
Melissa Thomas
01:29:51
It really has been dependent on the family situation. In some situations we have been able to increase family involvement with virtual options, but in some situations with our at risk population and families with lack of technology experience and opportunities it has become more difficult to maintain same level without the decrease in face to face options.
Melissa Thomas
01:30:13
with the decrease
Cindy Nichols
01:30:59
Parent participation has increased with virtual IEP meetings.
Kerilyn Redish
01:33:50
I wonder if we will be able to keep the momentum of parent involvement as we move through the pandemic and beyond. Are we making connections with increases in student achievement and engagement alongside the increase in parent involvement? (Perhaps not at the same rate, given the circumstances.) Are we (agencies, teachers, district personnel) acknowledging their participation and voices and highlighted the power of their engagement in the success and outcomes for their students? I'm thinking of those 3 little words that Mr. Knab shared "We appreciate you." We have all been grasping for parent contact, involvement, and engagement--and here out of necessity we have it more frequently. Namely, we have, in many cases, offered so many avenues for parent involvement out of necessity. How can we keep it up? It will be interesting to see how it plays out over the next several years... I just hope many recognize and try to maintain it as much as possible for that it has been working for.
Tricia Salvestrini
01:36:20
Those relationships & connections are SO important!
Donna Phillips
01:36:29
Great thoughts, Kerilyn. This is the right time to be thinking about how to translate and preserve the positives of the current situation.
Pam Kissoondyal
01:37:17
Cultural diversity - yes.
Debbie Saenz
01:41:52
It is very important to make the parents feel like a part of the team and talk to them not "at" them. It can be very scary when a parent feels like they are in a room with the "experts". The parents ARE the experts on their children.
Jordan Knab
01:42:01
Thank you, Catherine!! Excellent!!!!

Visually impaired students are not eligible for VR services without another qualifying disability, correct? I work with DBS for all students and VR for students with multiple disabilities. The IEP coordinator has been directed to provide all VI students with VR info.
Jenifer Trainor
02:19:09
where do we find the handouts?
Brandi Boyer
02:19:48
for traditional VR, you are correct, DBS would work with students who only have visual impairments. Technically, VR can serve any student with a disability (regardless of the type) through our Potentially Eligible status under WIOA. However, I do believe that DBS has a similar program. here may or may not be a need for VR's involvement.

02:20:35
If the student who has a VI also has an Intellectual Disability would the student be referred to VR or DBS?
Brandi Boyer
02:21:43
It is always, however, very specific to each student, so if a student could benefit from VRs Pre-ETS, by all means, please refer the student.

What age is most appropriate to complete a referral for VR?
Kim Carlisle
02:34:18
It was very timely, I just had a call from VR sectrtary in our area, she needed information on student that I entered into the STAR Portal, you cannot move forward if you leave anything out, so I am concerned.
Debbie

Sassafrass Mittleman
02:41:07
Would this also include other VR services, such as evals and mental health services, if the student is still too immature for work assistance, but have some transition goals on the IEP/ There is a great need for this access. Thanks for all the information!
Coleen Agner
02:41:49
My VR counselor says he doesn’t have access to see who I have entered into the STAR portal and has asked me to send him the paper referral form. From what I am hearing , I need to enter all
Mairlyn Lightbourn-Oshodi
02:41:52
Can local VR providers also submit through the STAR portal

02:48:50
Is VR having trouble finding employers who are willing to participate with special ed. students? When my boys were in school it seemed to be a problem...
Brandi Boyer
02:48:59
it does a few seconds to make sure that the information has actually uploaded. there is a section of the tables that will say "verified" if the document has been uploaded successfully before moving on to the next screen.
Christina Martin
02:49:24
