Gregg (WI)
08:51
Good afternoon, everyone!
CASC
09:01
Yes, congrats Dr. Pianta!!! :)
Gregg (WI)
09:05
Well....afternoon in WI...
Joanna Aragon
09:14
It’s still morning here, but hello!
Loretta
11:16
HI everyone, A big thanks to Lezya and Rebecca for organizing us.
Loretta
11:28
What a team too....
adonegan
11:52
Greetings! Hope everyone is well - physically and mentally!
Amy Dauble-Madigan
15:44
Yes, thank you Lezya and Rebecca! So organized and wonderful.
Amy Dauble-Madigan
16:10
As the elementary lead, I haven’t met with my team yet because I was waiting for people to join! Will be contacting my peeps today :)
Ashley Kruger
16:59
I feel you on that Amy. I too have a small team ☺️ small but mighty!
Rebecca Pianta
18:54
It's all Lezya. :-)
Alexis.Goddard
19:13
You're amazing Lezya!
adonegan
20:08
Can we invite school counselors outside of this group to help? I have a colleague at the elementary level who is fabulous!
CASC
20:33
The 25 characters also include spaces (the shorter the better)
Loretta
21:18
Thank you so much Nicole. I know Jeff is working on logo. Love to know how it is going Jeff???
Amy Dauble-Madigan
21:42
Andrea- I would say YES! The more input the better for elementary. Please have her email me ASAP.
CASC
22:04
It's actually already up as preview only - it was not on the slide show
Alexis.Goddard
22:06
I will also email Brittney Pacini for the elementary level too if that is helpful Amy
Loren Dittmar
22:50
With each of the level groups having the Soc/Emotional section (which obviously makes sense), I just want to help prevent duplication of info with the Mental Health section of the website. So, I'm wondering if there are suggestions to help prevent duplication (really across the board for all teams)…??
Alexis.Goddard
24:13
DR PIANTA
Whitney Triplett
24:35
hahahaha yes, you're as interesting :) @Beatrice
Leia E
24:40
@Loren, I added an SEL page since I have a lot of resources. It could certainly be a link on the Mental Health page instead.
Beatrice Nguyen
24:46
:)
Loretta
25:02
Thank you Beatrice! Glad to meet you. Your expertise is so important at this time.
Ashley Kruger
26:20
excited to learn from you @beatrice
Tricia
26:40
I feel like most links are mental health and people would rather search their level vs. a mental health section.
Beatrice Nguyen
27:00
Thanks, everyone, happy to be here!

Loretta
32:06
I would like to discuss what we want to recommend regarding announcing when/if faculty, students, etc. die due to Covid-19. What should we advise administrators to do as to the best way to notify. I know one of my first suggestions is to check with family to make sure they agree to the notification. Unfortunately, I have learned from going through far too many incidents when I was working at the district level. and overseeing critical incidence response, I would think another point of consideration is to identify those most impacted and call or communicate with them differently. I know this is sobering, but important.
Jennifer Betters-Bubon
32:46
Loretta, this is an extremely important point and unfortunately, I know many school districts are not quite ready for dealing with this virtually...
Kirsten
33:08
good point Loretta
Alexis.Goddard
33:51
Completely agree with you Loretta. Important point. I have actually seen posts on twitter and facebook about school employees (teachers, counselors and administrators) and students who have died due to COVID-19
Beatrice Nguyen
34:12
Absolutely, Loretta. There are different consideration when you're online, and while sticking to your district policy on this is a good guideline, there are more things to consider. Would be happy to discuss later
Gregg (WI)
34:17
And in WI, at the state level we are in the process of developing guidance and resources on virtual crisis response. Since school closures, we have had contact with districts who have lost students and staff to suicide, accident, and/or disease.
Ashley Kruger
34:55
agreed Loretta. Also, this is great information (the presentation) and it is being recorded, I’m wondering if we could post this for our members
Alexis.Goddard
35:40
I think it would be fantastic to post for members. So many counselors need this information and not every district has resources as amazing as Rebecca and Beatrice :)
Amy Dauble-Madigan
35:54
I think this would be fantastic to post for our members!!!
CASC
36:26
Absolutely, Loretta. I am on my district's Student Supports leadership team and we are in the process of modifying our district protocols about dealing with crisis virtually. I think a lot of the focus is still in policies and procedures around virtual counseling.
Jennifer Betters-Bubon
36:30
Gregg, I’m so glad to hear this. One of my interns had a student attempt suicide this week (elementary level) and was struggling…
Loren Dittmar
36:30
Yes, Loretta! I included a section within the Mental Health page for Grief/Loss. I believe this is one area that we all need to be preparing for (as sad/difficult as it is)... I added the Grief article that Loretta shared to the MH link list (for anyone interested). That really hit my own heart, as I too have been through similar challenges personally with the loss of loved ones from afar...
Whitney Triplett
37:12
@Loren - so sorry for your losses
Lucia Alfaro, School Counselor
37:54
Thank you for adding that section Loren.
Jennifer Betters-Bubon
39:40
I would LOVE That article on group counseling.
Alexis.Goddard
39:42
love that! I was wondering how to do open office hours with zoom but the waiting room is a great feature I always forget about
Loren Dittmar
39:46
So true!! I noticed in a Zoom session that our counseling team did yesterday, that almost all the students did NOT turn on their video option. They typically responded via chat, rather than verbally.
Loretta
42:01
Interesting, I would have not thought that. Also, thinking that Jeff might do a brief video training that we can upload which would teach counselors how to use certain technological features, like waiting room on Zoom and Google classroom.
Loren Dittmar
42:23
It seems that we need to build very close collaboration with our Teachers - to ask them to keep us informed of students in their virtual classes who are not engaging online, so we can follow up via email/calls to students and parents/guardians.
Amy Dauble-Madigan
42:26
That would be great Jeff!!!
Noemi
43:08
Good morning everyone :)
Noemi
43:35
@ Loren I’m sorry for your loss. Hoping you and your school receive the comfort and support you need at this time of grief.
Alexis.Goddard
43:48
I think a Zoom training and a Google Classroom training would be great ideas
Noemi
45:13
@ Loretta. When communicating about COVID-19, what we have done in San Diego Unified is to keep close collaboration and alignment with District information. We have worked on creating inclusive links that could support administrators in communicating with their schools about latest updates on Public Health recommendations and health guidelines.
Loren Dittmar
45:50
Just so y'all know, I was referring to a loss from years ago... Not currently. Sorry if that was not clear. I just know how hard it is when you are not able to be present with a loved one when they are dying. Sadly, that will be a reality for many people during this pandemic.
Gregg (WI)
46:02
Given our forced transition to the world of virtual service provision, I'm curious... are there school counseling preparation programs who prepare school counselors to specifically practice in the virtual world?
Noemi
46:10
Also, ensuring that nurses and counselors have a cohesive and aligned message for crisis response.
Jeff Ream
46:31
We are putting basic info on tech tools on the HS section of the site already. Most is either things I have already recorded or have sourced from other places (mainly YouTube)
Kirsten
46:37
we just discussed this in our district that teachers reach out first and then if we have a lot not working etc lists will be broken up among AP and Learning Directors and counselors to call homes ( in the event there is a large amount) Since our AP' s and Learning Directors do not have "discipline" to deal with they will help out calling and touching base on the attendance part and follow up on our calls to students who have F's all grade levels We will have a team approach as we are also at high school, having to get in touch with all those we could not meet with for classes for next year, etc
Jennifer Betters-Bubon
47:12
Gregg, great question. I don’t have an answer and we are putting together a class on tele-counseling right now and requiring our students to take part in PESI and ASCA webinars.
rachelzaragoza
47:15
Spanish speaking parents and needing a translator. What do you suggest in how to navigate this?
Loretta
48:50
BTW everyone, Other states are interested in collaborating/participating/supporting the work we are doing.
Becky Love
49:41
Have any HS counselors prepared PDF pleasing to eye graphics for latest guidance on graduation, SAT/ACT, A-G for Class of 2020 and another one for Class of 2021 and younger? I don't want to recreate the wheel. :)
Loren Dittmar
50:19
In addition to the *67 option to block caller ID, you can also create a Google Voice phone number that you can utilize. It's an awesome way to keep your personal number private, but still make calls and texts to students/families.
Loren Dittmar
50:29
Oh, she just said that! :-)
CASC
51:48
That's a great question, Rachel. Having a bilingual colleague that you can reach out to will be helpful. If there are a lot of Spanish speaking families, I would recommend creating a schedule about who is "on-call" to support with translating.
Loren Dittmar
52:59
Our admin can also send out a Blackboard messages to emails and by text to specific groups (e.g. Seniors, Juniors, etc.). That's a great way to get out important info!
CASC
53:41
Has anyone created a Google voice # using their school email address?
Tricia
53:55
yes
Alexis.Goddard
54:05
My district has that feature blocked but I am working on seeing if we can get it unblocked
Lucia Alfaro, School Counselor
54:41
Class Dojo is another great tool that many teachers use to communicate with parents/students.
CASC
55:40
Same here, Alexis. There is a fee that my district is looking into to set-up Google voice.
Alma
56:35
Just an FYI - check with your District on what tech is endorsed by your District for student communication. Example - some concerns with hacking, Zoom may not be recommended for student contact.
Kirsten
57:11
Yes Alma our district is having us use google meets
Jeff Ream
58:25
GV needs a private Gmail account unless your district contracts that for everyone
Becky Love
58:31
Google meets integrates so seamlessly with Google Classroom that our SC are preferring GMeets to work with students.
Ashley Kruger
59:40
our district doesn’t allow ANY google... we can use Microsoft teams but it is not very user friendly 😩
Davina Santos
01:00:20
@Becky Love great ask! If anyone has this, please share!
Loretta
01:00:27
Rebecca and Beatrice, Perhaps you both could work with Jeff to break up the presentation into many presentations. I.e.: Ideas on how to use Google Voice; Ideas on how to use Google Classroom; etc.
Beatrice Nguyen
01:00:55
Would be happy to do that
Beatrice Nguyen
01:01:00
How are we on time, Loretta?
Beatrice Nguyen
01:01:13
Or, anyone... are we okay on time?
Luz Arellano
01:01:39
this scheduled til 11:30
Beatrice Nguyen
01:01:49
Thank you!
Jeff Ream

Loren Dittmar
01:02:37
It seems that it would be valuable to ask the district to purchase Pro Zoom Accounts to ensure the added admin features are available and more than 100 participants can join sessions.
CASC
01:02:42
The meeting should not end just because the time says 11:30
Alexis.Goddard
01:02:43
Flipgrid is also a great resource! Students can respond to questions and prompts with a video
Beatrice Nguyen
01:02:58
I think pro zoom would be a worthy investment.
Alexis.Goddard
01:03:38
we aren't seeing the video
Beatrice Nguyen
01:04:11
Sorry, Alexis, it might be a connection issue, the link will be included with the presentation
Becky Love
01:04:31
Do we have link to this slide deck?
Beatrice Nguyen
01:04:59
I believe we will be sending it out, I will defer to Dr. Pianta for how we will get it out to everyone.
Whitney Triplett
01:05:17
I LOVE screencastify! :)
Beatrice Nguyen
01:05:46
Yes!
Beatrice Nguyen

Loren Dittmar
01:07:00
What was that code for ScreenCastify?
Becky Love
01:07:16
I have found Google Hangout Meet to be really easy with recording, the link going directly to your drive... edit in just a few minutes, and send out.

Terrific point, Bea. Rule #1 is keep the student safe in the moment. As with any emergency or crisis situation, this takes preparation and PRACTICE!
Beatrice Nguyen
01:15:48
Yes! We are all ready and well-equipped, having partners will give you the extra boost of support that will be required in this setting
Lucia Alfaro, School Counselor
01:19:07
Loving the explanation of all of these resources, thank you Beatrice and Rebecca! :-)
CASC
01:19:49
Yes, Lucia! Agree! Taking notes and thinking of how I can use everything :) -Lezya

@Rebecca- would you be OK with the leads sharing this recording out to district to disburse to local sites?
Alexis.Goddard
01:22:25
Agree! It is absolutely amazing, so many great resources!
Beatrice Nguyen
01:23:04
Surprisingly, paper shuffling by your computer speaker is quite loud.
Becky Love
01:23:09
Please, pretty, please. I have a countywide school counseling and admin. meeting TODAY @ 1:15
Beatrice Nguyen
01:23:32
I'll defer to Rebecca on this one, Becky!
Noemi
01:23:53
Hi Team,
Amy Dauble-Madigan
01:24:07
I think if this could be shared with all members, that would be great. This is a great resource that we can get out NOW- before the website. And then this all can be outlined on the website. Counselors NEED this info!
Beatrice Nguyen
01:24:40
I don't think it would be an issue, we can confirm with Rebecca!
adonegan
01:24:54
Does anyone know if you can get a background for google meet? My IT thought it couldn’t be accessed by individual users on their device.
Ashley Kruger
01:25:04
@loretta... please seee above. thoughts?
Noemi
01:25:13
I may have to jump off the call briefly. Let me know if there is still interest to collaborate on compiling resources for our school counselors as a State. I think it will be really awesome to provide resources to our schools, families and students as soon as we can make those available in a given platform. :)
Beatrice Nguyen
01:25:36
I love this infographic
Beatrice Nguyen
01:25:38
it's fantastic
Lucia Alfaro, School Counselor
01:25:39

Noemi
01:25:59
We can have another planning opportunity to design our website and/or other related items :)
CASC
01:26:16
This is a preview presentation for us. The idea was that Rebecca was going to give this presentation again to a wider audience at a near future time. This will allow others to ask questions outside of this group.
Jenny H
01:26:22
Do you know what was used to create that awesome infographic?
Beatrice Nguyen
01:26:30
Not sure but I love Canva

Joanna Aragon
01:29:25
I totally agree Alexis.
Alexis.Goddard
01:29:34

Sarah Slemmons
01:30:41
agreed, ASAP! Counselors need this now, especially since districts are making the official closure calls now
Beatrice Nguyen
01:30:42
If you have students who have regular check-ins with you, you can create a google calendar event and invite the student so that they have reminder before each meeting. I relied heavily on that
Loretta
01:31:06
I am so impressed with this presentation. For those wondering, I spoke with Rebecca about two things - 1) host another webinar for all and 2) make the webinar available as a resource, connected to the new website.
Linda
01:32:21
Incredible amount of information...

@Jeff Ream have you thought about creating a video for students kind of a back to school video only "coming back to your virtual school" teachers will need this as they start school. Norms for students but in a fun rrelateable way for students. Maybe one for middle school and one for HS.
