Hello Dannah!

01:15:12
Hi. I can't hear you!

01:15:27
I can hear Amber fine.

From NOAA - The difference between weather and climate: https://www.noaa.gov/explainers/what-s-difference-between-climate-and-weather#:~:text=Weather%20is%20what%20you%20experience,usually%2030%20years%20or%20more.

01:16:34
Weather is the at-bat, climate is the batting average.

01:16:48
Will slides be available afterwards?

01:16:51
I like that Eric!

01:17:11
Julia - the slides are in the collection. I'll share the link to the collection in a moment

If you haven't tried this new Climate Change game, I would highly recommend it. It is good for adults and high school students. The object is to try to reach net zero. https://ig.ft.com/climate-game/?fbclid=IwAR0nVImnPrn0pm_LcOWplU7L26_luVfunP4ycOXV1tKuMellJA__r3kcXOQ

01:34:16
Thanks for sharing Carissa

01:34:17
These graphs are so wonderful. Are there NOAA tools to find/create similar graphs (e.g., long-term changes in participation) for our specific cities or regions?

01:34:56
Yes! I put together a consolidated list of resources that break down climate information for county, city, state, and national levels: https://cpo.noaa.gov/Fellowships-Partners/Climate-Resources-and-Partners

01:35:04
I was reflecting on Beth's comment on the constant allergy season. Just as atmospheric evidence is found in ice cores via the "bubbles", how does this relate to the release of bacteria and other small life forms as ice melts in the polar regions? Are we seeing feedback in human health that is a result of climate change?

01:35:04
@Brooke: What about this? https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitoring/climate-at-a-glance/global/time-series

01:35:53
I appreciate these resources!

@Najib: I believe that FEMA and other US Federal Agencies have and use this data, i'm just having difficulty locating it at the moment.

ALL HAIL Pennsylvania! LOL!

01:43:51
Hooray PA!

01:45:31
I know this is a talk by climate experts, not experts in social and emotional learning, but I remember how scared I was of climate change when I was in elementary school and it’s so much scarier now! We also have a lot of students that have been personally impacted by flooding. Just thinking about how to guide conversations around these difficult topics.

01:46:07
I am curious about the Great Lakes and Climate Change - we talk about coasts re: Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. How will the "third coast” be affected by climate change?

01:46:48
Well said Brooke!

Brooke, I was in school in the 90s as a young child and I felt fear re: ecosystem and climate change. I see it even more pronounced in the kids that are young today. I agree with you, and I am so glad you posted this.

Flavio: This is what I want to ask the attendees about:The 5th National Climate Assessment, will soon be sent to Congress. It is now open to the public for comments. There is a lack of recommendation for climate education in our schools. The deadline for comments is January 27, 2023. The next opportunity won't be for 4 more year!See: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2022/11/10/2022-24611/availability-for-public-comment-on-the-draft-fifth-national-climate-assessment-nca5-united-statesReviewer sign-up: https://review.globalchange.gov/ The directions for adding comments online are straightforward. For those not able to read the entire document, Chapter 20, pages 9-10, provides a good opportunity to recommend adding the need for climate education and the teaching of the Next Generation Science Standards in schools throughout the United States.

David Sobel's Beyond Ecophobia talks about how and when to talk to children about tough environmental issues. His research has found it can do more damage than good if you introduce the issue of climate change too early--before age 9--if I remember could be a little older.

Yea I feel middle school is a good age to discuss this with students in a meaningful way

02:07:31
Reacted to "Yea I feel middle ..." with 👍

02:07:35
I agree totally, no bad news before 4th grade. Children have to learn to love the world before they want to save it.
