Are we supposed to submit questions here? To you, Jay?
Please speak to alternatives to jail/prison? US has many more incarcerated persons than any developed country, I've read.
What is the status of the opiod crisis in Utah??
What about officers "taking the knee" during racial protests -- views about that?
What do you wish were part of the public discourse around police involved shootings? Are there important things we are not discussing?
I've read that minorities and the poor are arrested and incsrcerated at greater rates than white persons. Is that the case in Utah?
i'd like to talk about mental health and crime, especially with the killing in Rochester of the man having a psychotic episode after his family called for help.
Are there volunteer opportunities with the jail population? Are there needs the jail has that can be supported by the community?
What does she think is driving the anger in the public about law enforcement? Does she feel it is justified? how is she specifically using her influence at this important time, to drive an agenda for change in a system? If not “defunding”, and moving resources around—-what? What, besides training, needs to change?
do you think it is in the public’s best interest for public employees, like law enforcement, to have a union? Does having a police union ultimately serve the public interest?
I am a fan of both law enforcement and people of color, and I realize both sides are suffering. It appears people react strongly when there are many shots fired, sometimes emptying the magazines into someone. To us untrained, that seems more like panic or fear. How do you help us understand those situations better?
