That's great insight, Ms. DeWall. Thank you for sharing. We often think about Zoom proceedings and access from the standpoint of litigants.

For the panelists, I’m curious what terminology people feel is most accurate for discussing disabilities - e.g., “people with disabilities,” “differently abled people,” etc. This is likely only an initial concept, but one I’ve been curious about and heard different things about over time.

Another question, has anyone tried to lobby or pass legislation, or interface with the SBM through the right channels, to create a fund to allocate resources for relief for people with disabilities to cover costs that other people do not need to pay, like special transportation, on-site assistance, etc.?

Being employed with the court, I really appreciate those of you sharing your experiences. Sometimes these are issues not "seen" until they are spoken out loud (slap me upside the head). So much emphasis is often focused on the "clients" or "pro se litigants," but truly the attorneys are also "clients" of the court. You've given me great insights today so that I can be more conscious of barriers inside my courtroom. Thank you so much for sharing.

It would be great to be able to create some proposals to help create refunds for those costs, and get things like accessible bathrooms installed at all public courts / legal buildings.

I would like to see a formal declaration, letter or resolution from the committee to the State Bar to work with State Court Administrator's Office to start the process to move these considerations forward.
