hi all, Erie 1
A digital map is a great way to collaborate with academic teachers.
Kate Maerten E1B Harkness
Can you please show just one slide at a time so that the print looks larger? Please and Thank you!
Will the slides be available after the program is finished?
Yes. And the video too.
Is there one place where we can find all of the standards for each year?
Here's where you can find the Common Core Career Technical Standards.
I was under the impression that we weren't supposed to be mapping to the Blueprint of our Technical Assessment yet it is included here on the list.
Can you share the link again to all of the standards?
In the past, we have had several discussions around "industry standards." What exactly is considered an industry standard?
Hi....are other BOCES schools using NGSS standards too?
Yes. Erie 2
Yes to NGSS - CiTi (Oswego)
SW BOCES yes
Erie 1 using NGLS for academics
For Health Sciences https://www.healthscienceconsortium.org/standards/
Yes, Sullivan BOCES using NGSS
We just updated to NGLS at Dutchess BOCES in regards to math in automotive
E doctrina and (?) programs to explore
chalk is far better and cheaper I think
it has a google docs kind of format so teachers can share plans and make recs for Sped/ELL accommodations. Easy to review and revise too
Does the state have a digital format and an exemplar?
Is there a state exemplar for crosswalks?
If there is a need, Dick and I will work on creating / facilitating more PD on curriculum developing and mapping.
What are suggestions to make sure curriculum maps benefit you rather than become busy work?
Making the assignments project based so they are more engaging for the students.
Use it as a guide to schedule your teaching and to make sure you stay on track.
Update them regularly when changes occur
Is there a way to show us what the curriculum mapping programs look like?
update them as needed but especially at the end of every school year
I use Atlas to help keep my topics on track. Not spending too much time on a particular unit.
Erie 1 uses Atlas as digital format for maps where academics is included in each program map
Make changes or updates when need too. Specially at the end of the school year and when you find that certain topics aren’t important.
yes Atlas is pretty user friendly
This is the link to the rubric on academic integration https://nyctecenter.org/images/AI_Exectuive_Study_.pdf
Just need to figure out how to have Atlas generate a usable crosswalk without having to spend hours formatting it.
CTE teachers need PD time to update their program maps twice per year
I agree on the crosswalk generation from Atlas
Great tip, Dave. The more transparent, the more effective.
Ann, we would love some good samples. email@example.com
Ann- that is what we have done at Erie 1
Would love a way to collaborate with other trade teachers locally on curriculum. I work in Culinary, I would love to work with other BOCES locally (on zoom even) and go over some curriculum. We find bouncing ideas off eachother is the most beneficial.
You can pay Atlas to take your existing maps into their system
It is so nice to hear that you have a team to collaborate with.
ATLAS actually does archive each year.
Our Atlas archives every year so we can work from where we were.
Can you get the archive back?
I like to download them from Atlas, so that I can compare and I have a way of looking to make sure nothing gets deleted by accident.
You can look at the archived materials. It kind of starts you for the new year where you were at the end of last year.
What are effective practices for collaboration of CTE teachers and academic teachers?
commencement level is ?
Our academic teachers meet with us and find existing academics in our curriculum and then work together to create new projects to integrate specifically in each program
I wish I had more time to sit with each of the teachers I work with. In the meantime, it is text messages, or emails. Otherwise, the trade teachers give me their week to week lesson topics and I try to work with that based on our ELA standards.
Can you put that link up again?
We also meet with our academic teachers and have used the program content for trade specific lessons
Agreed- NGSS..... very difficult. Not the perfect fit
I agree NGSS is tough to make fit.
We will see how long they stick around.
I sit down with my colleagues at least twice a month sometimes more during our prep time. This way we can discuss what lessons/units are going to be taught .
Is there any repository of curriculum maps that those writing new maps can use as a reference?
Are there any business cte educators
Or can we align to the career framework standards that address science standards?
Entrepreneurship pathway in comprehensive Hs.
I am the English Consultant teacher for Sullivan BOCES, and teach my own lessons as well as consult with other other ELA assignments.
I'm just curious why CTE courses are held to 108 hours of NYS approved (NYSSLS) commencement level standards to get a credit of science that counts as a science elective. If I were teaching a science elective at a non CTE NYS public school I would need 108 hours or science content that does not have to align to NYSSLS at all and can be standards that are specific to the elective (astronomy, natural disasters, etc...)
Also Forensics, Anatomy & Physiology, etc.
Co-teaching: so effective in many ways.
How many consultant teachers do you have?
We have about 600 students. We have 1 English and 1 math consultant
and 1 Spec ed
Wow! I did not know that's how some of the other programs are run.
So Suzsanna I am assuming you don't have a push-in model.
1 special education teacher for 600 students?!
We do co teaching
We have 2 academic teachers per department in Nassau BOCES. We have about 500-600 students assigned to us via the CTE programs. We are on a block schedule. Depending on the academic subject... we push into their class. For science we do science labs in the lab and push-in for some classes. We are on a flexible schedule
We need more academic teachers, in my opinion.
Integrated group - YES!!! Crode@citiboces.org
I agree Candace.

How does each academic teacher sign off on the model where they don't see the students? How do they know that the students really can read, write or understand/comprehend the academic subject?
Thank you! Have a great day

Thank you Tracy & Dick!
Thank you and Have a great evening!
Thanks for the info.!
Wow Theresa...you expressed some very valid concerns...especially with SpEd CTE students.
very helpful links and information, thank you!
Exemplars would be great - crosswalks and maps
michele hamilton english
Thanks, great discussion!
So, who do we contact if we have these types of questions?
Thank you everyone...looking forward to hearing what comes of our concerns.
ann do you have special education support?
I would love to meet again. Also, we need to think about how we are aligned to student test scores with APPR. We are aligned to the programs and that is not a perfect fit, either
Thank you this was very informational.
Yes, thank you
