New Ave Bikeways Meeting - Section B - Shared screen with speaker view
Gordon Chaffin
20:15
My apologies on getting caught up on this project late. Are there beginner-friendly bike facilities planned for the Eastern to Poplar (DC missing segment) and then Holton to University (Purple Line connection)?
Sandra Filippi
21:17
Will the owners of property adjacent to the NEW AVE Bikeway Sections A and B loose any of their property? What other impacts will affect them specifically? Have they been contacted?
Andrew Marcus
22:19
Has there been consideration of creating a shareway up Poplar and 4th St connecting to the bike lanes on Kansas Ave?
Sandra Filippi
22:47
Will vehicles other than bicycles be banned from that portion of Prince George's Avenue that acts as a service road?
Sandra Filippi
23:35
Where do we send comments about the 30% design? For example, the signage incorrectly names Belford Place "Bedford Place".
Sandra Filippi
24:26
How do we get copies of tonight's PP presentation?
Sandra Filippi
26:23
What, if anything, will happen to the retaining wall mural?
Andrew Marcus
27:05
any plans to prevent people from parking across the crosswalk on Conway on Sundays to access the church across the street?
Gretchen Goldman
27:40
why prevent them? We live right there and it poses no problem.
Andrew Marcus
28:23
I mean that people currently park directly blocking the handicapped-accessible curb cut
Andrew Marcus
28:43
no reason to prevent parking generally
Gordon Chaffin
29:11
Those are sharrows going westbound?
Sandra Filippi
29:13
The proposed closure serves more than the immediate residents. It is used by others.
Sandra Filippi
30:10
How will TPPW provide services to the remaining portion of the PG Avenue closure? Collection of waste, snow treatment, etc.
Thomas Di Liberto
30:11
But there are other roads that serve the exact same purpose. It's a redundant dangerously steep road that has already seen a major car accident.
Gretchen Goldman
31:00
sorry if I missed it, is there any sort of barrier between the frontage road and the contraflow lane?
Gordon Chaffin
31:06
In the west-most shared use path, is it possible to make the shared-use path 10'? Eight feet is really narrow for two way traffic.
Andrew Marcus
32:22
Is there a consideration for how people walking and on bikes can safely traverse the parking lot to Lidl and the other businesses across the street?
Sandra Filippi
32:54
There is an opportunity to create bus pull overs. Was/is this being considered?
Thomas Di Liberto
33:21
Is there any conversation with the owner of the shopping center to remove those parking spaces on new Hampshire since there is ample parking behind the building?
Bob Summersgill
35:48
Street crossings should have green paint to show drivers and cyclists the interaction zone
Gordon Chaffin
35:51
HEre's that website - https://takomaparkmd.gov/government/housing-and-community-development/planning-and-community-development/new-ave-bikeway/
Gretchen Goldman
36:01
This will be so amazing! Thank you for prioritizing this.
Mimi Diez
36:18
reflective paint would also be a great addition
Gordon Chaffin
36:25
Doesn't Takoma Park own Poplar to Eastern? Or is that PG County land?
Sandra Filippi
36:27
What is the elevation detail between vehicles and the shared use path? Is it a low wall or simply paving?
Gretchen Goldman
37:05
Poplar > fourth >eastern provides a nice alternative currently that is easy to bike
Clifford Schwartz
38:16
When is construction anticipated to begin and how long will construction take?
Michael Caruso
38:42
Thank you for holding this meeting. 8 feet appears narrow for a shared use path that includes pedestrians and bicycles, especially for a path right along NH Ave. Is it possible to expand path width to at least 10 feet (per MoCo Bike Design Toolkit) along NH Shopping Plaza (particularly in front of the rug store that comes up to the sidewalk)?
Gretchen Goldman
40:24
That narrowing of the PG entrance is also nice for speed control of cars coming off New Hampshire. That'll be great.
Andrew Marcus
41:05
Can you describe the intended buffer between the bike lane and the southbound lanes?
Gordon Chaffin
42:12
I'm just concerned about the missing segment from Eastern to Poplar. That's 6 wide travel + median with tiny sidewalks and no boke facilities.
Gordon Chaffin
42:47
And missing segment from Holton to University. Is that covered in PG County small area plan improvements near Purple line?
Andrew Marcus
45:00
why does that segment need to be open for cars at all?
Andrew Marcus
45:49
^^^ in front of Gussini
Sandra Filippi
46:28
What about adding Capital Bikeshare station?
Stacy Gilbert
50:12
there’s a new cap bikeshare station in front of dunkin donuts
Gretchen Goldman
51:06
This will make it so much safer to use the bikes from that bikeshare station
Bob Summersgill
51:40
Is there a jurisdiction issue with New Hampshire Ave being a state owned road?
Sandra Filippi
52:21
Please add more speed cameras. Folks drive 40+ mph.
Clifford Schwartz
54:06
Who owns the parking lot?
Thomas Di Liberto
55:03
Thanks!
Cindy Dyballa
55:37
say a bit more about relocating traffic light at shopping center. how far?
Gordon Chaffin
55:43
Yeah, you should stripe the Kermit in conflict zones
Spencer Clark
57:50
What type of signage can be added to NH Ave SB to warn drivers to be aware of contraflow traffic when turning?
Sandra Filippi
58:10
As you know a portion of Section B is Area 5 permit parking which restricts parking at night. There is continuous violation by residents and guests of Belford Towers. Increased enforcement will be needed.
Sandra Filippi
58:49
Is the nasty railing going away in its entirety or just by the commercial area?
Clifford Schwartz
59:02
What will biking be like to continue either north or south of this 1/2 mile bike way?
Michael Caruso
01:01:03
Is the “Ethan Allen Gateway” concept development plan part of the consideration for this portion of the bikeway?
Stacy Gilbert
01:01:20
don’t all the stores have loading/service doors in back?
Andrew Marcus
01:01:21
Both Gussini and the pawn shop have loading docks in the back. A pedestrian road would make much more sense there, if the property owners could be convinced. Worth having that conversation IMHO
Sandra Filippi
01:02:05
I mean railing between Belford Place and PG Ave.
Cindy Dyballa
01:04:50
at what stage do residential property owners get contacted?
Spencer Clark
01:04:55
I'm sorry if I missed it earlier, but is there any protection of the contraflow lane from the SB shared lane (even with flexposts)?
Gretchen Goldman
01:05:10
This is such an improvement especially for all the folks that currently bike this strip without any of these safer proposals. Thanks!
Andrew Marcus
01:05:33
Yes! Such a huge improvement! Thanks for pushing this forward!
Thomas Di Liberto
01:06:16
This is all excellent! Thanks so much for these plans and efforts.
Clifford Schwartz
01:07:07
what will biking be like north and south of the bikeway?
