As a young person my parents are absolutely the ones that show their prejudice against unhoused people

I’d also just like to say these actions and someone being there can be done by someone other then the police.

A reminder to all to speak slowly! <3

I'd like to know more about what the commission and everyone who is speaking is doing on a practical level - here's a link to a group in Newark that is making very positive changes. They actually get out and do the work instead of just talking about it. And they work with the police as well in partnership rather than opposition- check it out:https://www.newarkcommunitystreetteam.org/about-us/

I feel for Jane Doe, and am sending well wishes to her on her journey. I would like to note that as a survive of extreme domestic violence and rape, I still support NAN’s demands. If any commissioners or fellow attendees would like to hear a counter-anecdote from the perspective of a survivor, I would be happy to share it.

PCCRC, Jane Doe’s final comments constitute a threat. Can you please ask speakers not to threaten commenters?

Social services are also part of the problem—and how we speak truthfully to that matters.

I think it’s important to acknowledge the micro aggressions within multiple statements tonight.

^ Agreed re: Jane Doe’s threatening statement. That just added to the reasons people don’t feel safe attending these kinds of meetings
