There are so many great resources (Generation Genius) that often perform those "cool" experiments which students can still view but with safety

I work at a private school. I have not noticed a major stress about MSDS, PPE, Etc.I am a first year teacherWhat would be a best approach for addressing this. I do not know what rule/laws they follow. Is this any different than public schools.

What would you say the most important lab safety rule is? What should we be stressing to the students the most?
Eric Lipps
02:16:44
Ok thank you

Do students need a documented safety assessment for every lab?
Christian Donovan
02:19:42
Have you seen changes in student ability in terms of labs....I myself remember doing flame tests in middle school...yet I find myself worrying about my own students handling much simpler tasks with same safety

I was a Science Dept Chair in a private school. I had to train myself about state and Fed rules for safety. I devoured OSHA rules, I talked with fire department, and got help from professionals - esp with chemical disposal. I knew we were still liable, but no one in the school knew anything or had thought about safety. NSTA has good resources. Flynn has great resources for chemicals.

Thanks for the great info....going to try and mention this to my department head (great webinar for new science teachers starting out :)

I am currently a sped para and Sped major. We always have a para one on one with as risk students. Those with behavior issues do no participate in certain labs or are given alternative assigments
