David Hernandez
31:06
was this what we were emailed 20 hours ago
Ruby Chen
31:23
Are there going to be college students in the ACE meeting on November 10th?
Hayat Hakim (Mentor)
31:58
For a scholarship, you need to be a junior or senior - mentors correct me if I'm wrong
Ruby Chen
32:02
Are all seniors joining the College Students Panel meeting?
Michael Fitz
32:16
Will we receive these announcements so we can share with folks who might not be able to attend this meeting

34:50
is architecture part of STEM?
Christi Fu
36:03
Yes, architecture is a part of STEM

Luke Lombardi, Mentor
43:43
Glad to see they're all wearing their PPE
Galilee Contreras
44:08
That’s 3 blocks from my school:)
Jachin Chyn
44:12
looks like an OSHA violation
Emilee Xie
44:22
Do engineers the ones who draw blueprints?
Ruby Chen
44:54
Does every architect start the project off with a blueprint or a sketch of the building?
Emilee Xie
45:01
*Are engineers the ones who draw blueprints?
Jason Dunster - Mentor
45:08
Architects and engineers typically produce most of the drawings (blueprints).
Luke Lombardi, Mentor
45:20
There's a nice drawing!
Amalia Juarez
45:21
Do both engineers and architects make the building models?
Juan Garcia, Mentor
45:47
Yes, Engineers have to drawings their own set of drawings that descrive the structure.
Kent Kaewwaen, Mentor
45:53
Architect and engineers do make building models. Contractor do as well.
Jason Dunster - Mentor
46:42
Ruby - Many projects start with hand sketches but designers are also now sketching digitally.
Emilee Xie
47:05
When was the Banc of California Stadium, LAFC built?
Ruby Chen
47:40
How is building a stadium different from building a regular building?
Luke Lombardi, Mentor
48:07
Completed in 2018
Sagar Dalal, Mentor
48:08
the construction finished in 2018
Christi Fu
49:06
When I worked on a stadium 15 years ago and then office buildings and residential buildings later, I noticed the biggest differences were the specialty items.
Rick Vaughn - Mentor
49:15
Stadium construction is a specialty market.
Nanami Matzumoto
49:17
Won't it break
Sagar Dalal, Mentor
49:35
One of the major difference in stadium construction compared to a regular building is that a stadium typically involves long span steel framing, which makes it a unique erection process
Christi Fu
49:41
These items include stadium seating, scoreboards, locker room items
Emilee Xie
50:32
What type of material is the foundation of the Wilshire Grand usually made of?
Chelsea Velasco
50:34
Since there are so many aspects to a building, how many sketches will allow the engineers/architects to get an idea of what the building will look like?
Sagar Dalal, Mentor
50:56
Wilshire Grand foundation is a very deep 'concrete mat'
Ruby Chen
50:58
What is the strongest material that can support a tall building?
Christi Fu
51:04
I believe the foundation was concrete at WG
Nanami Matzumoto
51:09
Does Architecture design the inside as well?
Sagar Dalal, Mentor
51:42
Both steel and concrete or both can adequately support a tall building. There is ongoing research to have tall timber skyscrapers which will be more sustainable
Jason Dunster - Mentor
51:53
Chelsea - It is possible a very simple project like a shed in your backyard could only have one sketch or drawing. Projects like the Wilshire Grand will have thousands.
Jachin Chyn
52:08
I heard that this building is the tallest to west of the Sears tower in chicago
Isabell Chavez, Mentor
52:16
Architects often design the layout of rooms in a building as well as how a building looks from the outside.
Chelsea Velasco
52:17
Thank you!
Sagar Dalal, Mentor
52:39
That is correct, WG is the tallest building in US west of Chicago
Luke Lombardi, Mentor
52:43
also why it's the "tallest" :D
Amalia Juarez
52:58
Is this building in la?
Maria Cruz
53:04
The InterContinental Hotel's of WG has its lobby on the 70th floor so you can see the LA skyline.
Isabell Chavez, Mentor
53:19
This building is in Downtown Los Angeles
Luke Lombardi, Mentor
53:34
Shaped like Yosemite' Half Dome
Amalia Juarez
53:45
oo
Emilee Xie
54:02
When building what are Tabs usually used for?
Luke Lombardi, Mentor
54:04
some might call that cheating

Christi Fu - Arcadis - Mentor
58:53
London, that's awesome!
Ruby Chen
59:07
Which colleges are best known for their engineering majors?
Christi Fu - Arcadis - Mentor
59:28
Amalia, it's tough to get into engineering majors but not as bad as becoming a doctor!
Isabell Chavez, Mentor
59:56
Depending on which engineering discipline you want to study, the college will vary
Christi Fu - Arcadis - Mentor
01:00:14
In California, UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCB, Cal State SLO, Cal State Pomona... but it does depend on the type of engineering
Hanson (mentor) Yu
01:00:17
Ruby: Steel & Concrete are the strongest common materials used. Both have different strengths/weaknesses. Steel is more flexible for earthquake forces. Concrete is very strong for compression forces (columns/foundations). Carbon Fiber is also extremely strong and sometimes used for seismic retrofits/small parts
Subrina Kuo
01:00:23
What do environmental engineers do? What's their working condition like>
Amalia Juarez
01:00:25
Is it harder or easier than becoming an architect?
Ruby Chen
01:00:56
Is aerospace engineering an important type of engineering besides mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering?
Jackson Pitofsky - Mentor
01:01:20
Yes Ruby, very important if we're going to live on Mars one day!

environmental engineers help clean up the water and air. the ones I know do a lot of field work testing water and air conditions.
Isabell Chavez, Mentor
01:02:20
Water treatment as well!
Subrina Kuo
01:02:24
Do engineers work more on field or in office?
Chi Kwan Fong
01:02:27
Make sure the programs are accredited
Ruby Chen
01:02:33
Were the working conditions difficult for architects when they're building somethin'

Christi Fu - Arcadis - Mentor
01:02:54
