50:37
Citation machines/automatic generators are not a replacement for knowing how to cite. They can contain many errors.
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
51:01
So make sure you use a citation style guide or consult with a librarian about your citations.
Abel Koka
51:45
What common form of citation is accepted in Canada or vary from Uni to Uni?
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
52:17
A variety of citation styles are used depending on the field of study. Your instructor will let you know, if not you can ask them.
Abel Koka

01:03:16
How to avoid under citation?
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:03:50
Make sure that when you are taking your notes on your readings, put the source of the information in a citation. That way, when you go to write your paper, it is easy to put in the citation every time you’ve used that information.
Srichandan Vojjala
01:04:50
Thankyou Ms./Mrs.Loie
Tuan Tu Luc
01:05:06
Do we have any tools for students to to self-check paradism?
Zachary
01:05:09
Is there any software recommended to help us manage citations with notes
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:06:23
Yes you can go to the UManitoba libraries website and look for ‘reference management software’. There are a few different programs you can use, and a librarian can help you identify which one will be best for you
Zachary
01:06:55
Thanks
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca

Tuan Tu Luc
01:07:05
Do we have any tools for students to to self-check plagiarism? Thank you in advance
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:08:50
If you are a graduate student, you can request access to iThenticate, which is a text-matching software for researchers. There is no plagiarism checking tool for undergraduate students. But these tools should be used in combination with other resources, like meeting with a writing tutor. Because plagiarism checkers often make mistakes.
Camila
01:10:17
Thank you! where and how I can request access to iThenticate?
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:10:49
I can’t access the link for iThenticate right now but if you go to the UM website and type in iThenticate, there is an information page on who to contact for access.
Camila
01:15:34
thank you
Hossein
01:16:54
Can you explain the difference between Argument and Analysis?
Avishai Co
01:17:09
argument is point
Avishai Co
01:17:15
analysis is explaining
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:17:37
The analysis is to explain what you think about the evidence - if you agree/disagree with it, how you think it supports your argument.
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:18:01
The analysis is also where you make it clear why you have included that evidence in the first place.
Hossein
01:18:11
Thank you
Ravneet Kaur
01:18:19
can you explain crediting one again
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:19:00
You will see examples of crediting in these examples - anywhere there is a citation (author name, year, page number). You need to do this any time you include information from another source (evidence).
Ravneet Kaur
01:19:44

01:28:17
any citation tools that is suggested?
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:29:04
Use the citation style guides for the citation style you’re required to use. The library also has some handouts on how to cite different sources.
Loie.Gervais@umanitoba.ca
01:29:23
I would suggest avoiding citation generator websites because they are usually wrong, or have lots of errors.
