Prometric just announced (like today) closures through May 31st
From a student who cannot attend: For the students in Houston/Tyler, what day will we need to be there by? I would like to know when I need to find a place and start my lease!
I am not clear on how neurology clerkship is going to work? I see “Dedicated Neurology Clerkship Time” under the 6 weeks of Introduction to Clerkships and Clinical Skills Course. But then I also see neurology integrated with psychology during our actual clinical time.
Do you all know if Step 1 is counted as ‘essential’? Prometric has closed through May 31 except for programs that are “essential workforce”
Is there an estimated release time for POM2 exam scores?
Will the internal medicine shelf be taken after the scheduled 6 week period? Or at some other time?
So may days are canceled?
as always, thank you for doing this for us. I have a few questions:how were the DHM final grades transformed?what will change for the GS final to prevent the issues from DHM?When will we be getting our POM final grades/why haven't we gotten them yet?
So our May dates are canceled, the prometric site is literally overloaded (cannot reschedule) and for those who looked before this announcement, all places in Texas were full until after our new deadline from you all
Some of us are having issues with rescheduling to a further date (before the June 26th deadline). Online there are no dates available. Any recommendations?
Why is it bad for us to try to make logical decisions about how we think its best for us to test? Rather than getting to June and being told we need to reschedule, why not let us control our own situation?
Do we need to contact if we are changing BEFORE June 26th?
It is not clear to us. Some of us have gone about contacting the offices you have recommended and have felt like we do not have a say in our future.
Do y’all have a set cutoff score for this coming practice exam for continued monitoring?
Do May test takers need to change our dates or is there any chance we will still be able to take it?
N. Miles Farr
katie the score and process is in the presentation sent out
I saw the score for the June practice exam but not for the practice exam this weekend, did I miss it?
Katie, I believe that NBME21 score is on that presentation.
what is the plan if prometric closes june dates?
^ Please can someone address this. The June tests.
so the DHM grades are absolute raw scores?
I think they said the class grades themselves weren’t transformed (hence the mention of people losing points on midterm if the class was transformed)
I know many people had issues with the setup of the lab values at the top of the exam on the DHM final. It took a lot of time to scroll back and forth on the exam over and over again. Is there an alternative to the location of the lab values on the exam?
Based on the powerpoint that was sent out, it seems like if we feel the need to push back our step date to within the 8/7 test date we would be missing either the 2 online electives or a nice long vacation that we can take for mental wellbeing. Why is it unreasonable for us to recognize how this virus has disrupted our step plan and ask that instead we use those 6 weeks to better prepare ourselves for this life changing test?
Just for clarity, can someone clarify what the early June testers are supposed to do? The parametric website shows that no dates are open until end of July. However, the UTMB deadline is June 26th. So, what are we to do?
also, multiple part questions were separated which was confusing and caused for time to be lost rereading prompts
Thank you to Dr. Karnath for making things easier for us during this time.
If you have a June test date, hold on to it
What about a may test date?
I also believe that for an exam like DHM that has lots of heme, lab values are very necessary. I know I didn’t need to use lab values as much in MS1. Maybe that is why they didn’t have the same issues we did.
If you are cancelled, you have permission to move your test date. Please send us cancellation notice
Is there any updated information about which online electives will be available in the new June and July blocks? Are all electives available to us which require no prerequisites?
Is there any chance that May test takers will still take it in May?
Hard to know what prometric will do
we did not address the possibility of june tests being cancelled ?
Right now June dates are not cancelled, so please hold on to them.
Are there other options to take Step 1 at other sites besides Prometric, because they just closed all testing centers through May 31st?
We do not know of any, although there is increasing pressure on the NBME to let that happen
For those who asked about this weekend’s score “cutoff”. This is from the email sent PRIOR to COVID-19. “By mid-April, we recommend your goal should be to score at least a 194 on an NBME practice exam. This will allow you to use the dedicated study period to get you into the passing zone of 3 consecutive practice exams scores in the ≥ 207 range."
john why did you do that
Can I and some of my dual degree colleagues move on to summer classes while we wait to take step 1? Sorry for moving my date so much :D
What if we can’t take it somewhere else? We do not have the money or means to travel to another state to take an exam. I know this is a “IF” statement, but this should be kept in mind for those of us who are lower not the socioeconomic pole.
Olamma's earlier message about no June and July dates being available at prometric is a serious concern right now, especially for those in the "high risk" group; for an early June date with the NBME checkpoint assessment being as late as June 1st, this gives minimal time for students with a date in the first week or two of June to scramble to find later dates if necessary. I sincerely hope this will be addressed soon, and that admin will consider extending beyond the June 26th deadline to allow more flexibility.
If you need an increase in financial aid, please contact Carol Cromie
With all due respect and deep humility, the movement of a test date to an out of state location includes factors more than money that could be given as a loan from financial aid. There are other factors (i.e. family responsibilities). I just want to submit that thought.
RE the question about the NBME checkpoint being in early June...if you find after the NBME checkpoint that you need more time we will let you take more time even moving your date into August.
When would the CARES funding be disbursed?
Why is our clinical skills course 6 weeks now instead of 1?
Dr. Farr, is there any updated information about which online electives will be available in the new June and July blocks? Are all electives available to us which require no prerequisites, or will it be a new list?
Do we need to fill out anything for the new clerkships? Sorry, I'm going through the powerpoint right now
I previously tried asking this question but received no response. For those who did a surgery preceptorship last summer, does it count as a pre-req for surgery electives or A-I with pre-reqs?
To my understanding, Dr. Woods, our mental health + concerns about social distancing during an early June date are NOT being taken into consideration. From what you have said, we can only reschedule past June 26th if we fail the practice exams or Prometric cancels. Correct?
Along those lines Dr. Farr, some upper classmen recommend doing A/I's early for the purpose of building relationships, networking, and letters of rec. Any thoughts on this ?
Laura Nevarez keeps my calendar. When I try to do it myself I always overbook.
Does discussing rescheduling with y’all apply only to people needing to reschedule past the 26th or everyone?

Thank you Dr. Farr
Dr. Woods, in my perspective on these town halls you are making it sound like the administration is willing to work with us on rescheduling, but in my experience I have not received this opinion when I have worked with the team.
Thank you, Dr. Farr.
during this 6 week class, can we have more of those simulation experiences in HEC where we ask specific questions and get the answers directly instead of the "what info would you want?" and not getting it until later if at all? or like that one TBL where we had a hyperlinked case? those experiences were awesome in my opinion
If we had a May test date and can’t find a Texas seat until July (past the UTMB deadline), are we then forced to go out of state?
Has there been any talk of Prometric cancelling all dates and re-assigning based on order of original test dates? I figured it might be unlikely, but thought I'd ask
If you have your test cancelled, you can schedule it any time before 8/7.
Where/when can we see the online elective schedule for july/august?
That would seriously be amazing.
sorry I missed it earlier
