What if someone is currently postdoc in university of calgary?
You had mentioned outside researchers with some expertise in the area? Would someone who doesn't work in research but has a degree in Microbiology qualify? Do I have to have a masters/PhD?

The topic of the presentation attracted me to join in today. I am a mechanical engineer with master studies from U of C but not related to life sciences. However, I have an idea about a device which could help people with pain in an specific part of their bodies. I am not sure if this is the right path or maybe another one within the U of C and Innovate Calgary scopes for fellowships or support?

How big is each cohort? How many applications do you typically receive?

Let's say I'm accepted. My project requires help with ionic fluids and their safe disposal. How do I get safety training or is there someone who would be able to help me with that?
To commercialize the product/create an MVP, I need an electrospinner. Let's say this is not available in your lab. Can I use the funds to purchase needed machinery and where would I store it?
I am an academic faculty and lead a research and training program. Should I encourage my trainees/students to apply for this program and are you looking for them to apply with their own, independent idea for a research projects? Is it an advantage or disadvantage for them to collaborate with an academic lab?

Fellows can also apply to Mitacs to get their own Mitacs Fellows to help with development. A big part of the mentorship involves helping Life Sciences Fellows access other development funding.
UCeed vs this Fellowship. Difference?
My project is development of sensor for medical use so it needs some software development in order to monitoring so it will come in both digital and life science ?
Can you describe the kind of project that would be considered in too late-stage to be eligible?
Does the patent will be at the name of the fellow, the company or the university?
If my idea is to provide a service to a big health care provider, will you facilitate a connection with that company/provider? And is that feasible?
