Question: Is there any talk in your world on the large-scale changes now that so many systems are on "pause" … I am thinking of food supply (nearly one million unused acres of farmland in NB but we import 95% of our food? Can this moment in time allow for major changes in how we have done things up to now??
Diluckshnie Jayawardena
58:30
Yeah you can't even call them. I tried. They only take web form based questions now.
Priscilla Grimmer
59:44
things were slow enough to begin with
Brandon Kirby
01:01:29
Yes, I have been disqualified based on a minimum amount of revenue
Carlos
01:02:31
Sorry, but I missed the first minutes of your talk, could you tell me what's going on so far?
Kirsten Snider
01:03:15
Hi Carlos, welcome. We are doing a Q & A. You are free to ask your question in this chat, or use the “raise your hand” function
Tim Scammell
01:05:58
I have heard advice that people should set aside 20% of what they get for taxes.
Priscilla Grimmer
01:07:17
yes students are and we are not all young some of us have families that we are trying to support
Lincoln Taylor
01:07:41
I, for one, very much want to go back to work.
Tom Richards
01:09:52
Me too, Lincoln!
Alex Scholten
01:10:11
In the US, there is an incentive program for businesses that provides economic recovery financing with a portion that would be forgivable. The forgivable portion is tied to jobs that are maintained or rehires from workers laid off. Is this something that the Federal recovery plan is looking at? This would help to address Jonathan’s point.
Glenn Smith
01:10:56
if you read about the history of temporary foreign workers in Canada, this has been an ongoing issue since the 1950s and employers have always had to first offer these jobs to Canadians. It is hard and low paying employment with not very cushy working conditions. Temp foreign farmworkers have become a structural necessity for the agricultural industry in Ontario as several programs have been implemented to try to entice workers to take these jobs to no avail... UFCW is working to try to improve labour rights and conditions of TFWs in agriculture in Ontario as they have no Aven

Thank you! 554 is an essential service.
Kaitlyn Delarosbil
01:11:49
i just wanted to add that advocating for these women to go to hospitals during a pandemic is not okay either. These procedures do not need to be in the hospital especially now.
Kaitlyn Delarosbil
01:11:51
thank you!!!
Brandon Kirby
01:13:36
Doesn’t clinic 554 do abortions? That’s sketchy
Shane Levesque
01:14:18
especially for in increase in wages,
Kaitlyn Delarosbil
01:14:21
They do brandon, but you have to pay out of pocket and if you can’t the clinic absorbs the cost
Kaitlyn Delarosbil
01:14:34
so if you can’t afford it, you must go to a hospital
Bryana Perreaux
01:14:44
Can I get in queue for a question?
Brandon Kirby
01:15:05
Bryana, yes, just use the raise hand function, just above the chat window
Bryana Perreaux

Access to healthcare has always been hard in NB. Waiting for a family doc or waiting to see a doc at an after hours clinic has not improved. However https://www.evisitnb.ca/ has been a great addition during this time. Will this continue post the pandemic?
Judy Green
01:31:41
Question: many people and small businesses are seasonal and count on making enough in the summer months to support them for the entire year. Many work enough hours in the summer and collect EI in the winter. what
Judy Green
01:31:56
What happens when there is no business this summer
Eric St-Amand
01:32:19
Woohoo!! NB needs to grow more of it's own food!!!
Brian Lowry
01:32:30
We're planting a lot, the deer and raccoons will probably be extremely well fed — we'll eat what's left
Eric St-Amand
01:32:55
lol brian
Rachelle Ramey

Very concerned with 5G!

Deer and raccoon make a good stew.
Rachel Hamilton
01:33:25
can we change the legislation in NB to allow competition with selling energy within the province so we can decentralize ?
Eric St-Amand
01:33:33
Security and Health risks!
Eric St-Amand
01:33:52
I'd chime in
Eric St-Amand
01:33:53
lol
Brian Lowry
01:34:03
5G has huge privacy risks, but the health risks seem like pseudoscience to me
Tom McLean
01:34:04
WHO classifies radiowaves as 2B ("possibly carcinogenic"). Concerning but no reason to panic.
Rachelle Ramey
01:34:13
I'd like to see local food be the way forward!
Sandy Liu
01:34:14
i heard diary farmers are dumping their milks, that’s a shame. I hope we can come up with programs to help save perishable food.
Eric St-Amand
01:34:28
it isn't pseudoscience.
Eric St-Amand
01:34:47
There's a reason why there are warning labels on our phones about keeping phones near our bodies.
Eric St-Amand
01:35:21
They emit EMF which is not healthy for our bodies. 5g Technology is WAYYY more powerful.
Eric St-Amand
01:35:56
Towers will be installed every 100 meters, so way more towers and the signal is much stronger, so we're gonna be bombarded by WAYYY more radiation than we've ever been.
Maria DiCarlo
01:35:56
We see you Priscilla!! <3
Brian Lowry
01:36:13
Question: could the federal government send out a flyer to help people start home gardens?
Shane Levesque
01:36:22
I was doing casual work as an EA before Covid-19 hit. I can still do some of that work.
Shane Levesque

Jonathan Love
01:36:58

provincial systems are not adapting to the covid 19 changes to provide the much increased need to support persons with disabilities on many fronts
Eric St-Amand
01:37:17
Yup, significantly effects how our bodies function.
Eric St-Amand
01:37:27
it significantly*
Priscilla Grimmer
01:39:05
no they have not taken persons with disabilities losing outside supports was difficult enough but the effect it has on my child is unfair
Gail Costello
01:40:10
Has the NB govt cut back long term care facility inspections like Ontario? How do we know?
Gail Costello
01:41:34
This is not new!!! Has been happening for years in these places - COVID has only brought it to the forefront

I applied for EI April 7 but likely don’t have enough hours to qualify. I assume my application will be rolled over to CERB but unable to get thru on 1-800 number to verify. I’m a working senior out of necessity so need income to top up CPP and OAS
Priscilla Grimmer
01:43:48
psw have always been undervalued and underpaid and it dd not seem that Blaine higgs has any intention to fix it
Mitch
01:44:20
How is it that fast-food establishments are considered essential? Is a Big Mac or Double Double really essential?
Lincoln Taylor
01:45:01
Especially Tim Hortons. I mean, WHY???
Shane Levesque
01:45:03
When it comes to wages the NB government has only given small amounts; Not enough to follow the cost of living increases thats been happening over the years.
Paige Stevenson
01:45:11
My question is concerning students and financial support during the outbreak. Many students are not able to pay their rent, for their groceries, medications, etc., due to the loss of summer job prospects and their inability to apply to the CERB. Are you aware of any measures that are being taken to ensure that this demographic does not fall through the cracks?
Gail Costello
01:45:34
I have emailed my MLA asking about the prescription copay fee that has tripled since the govt brought in the max 1 month prescriptions - which I agree with to ensure that we have medication to care for seniors - but peoples copay fees have tripled. The NB govt is helping with the NB drug plan but not anyone on a private (Blue Cross) plan. These folks needs some form of compensation/rebate plan for all seniors who’ve had their drug expenses triples
Priscilla Grimmer
01:45:57
no psw have to work 2 jobs I worked full time at Paradise villa and for Bayshore for 3 years to make ends met we make just a few dollars more than minimum wage and I was responsible for 12 residents by myself.
Shane Levesque
01:46:13
We need proper investments for wages, access for extra training. I know we can’t dictate what colleges do but NBCC should have a two year diploma program instead of one for the Human Service Counsellors program.
Brian Lowry
01:47:22
Lincoln we have an elderly, sickly neighbour — it breaks his heart that he can't go to Tim's and hang out with all his friends every day — I'm not a fan of Tim's but lots of people are emotionally attached

Raven Blue

Yes, the antibody tests (immunity) should be rolled out nationwide, because many of us who have had it or are asymptomatic would be immune, and can return to normal life
Carlos Morales
01:52:49
Are there going to be any kind of incentives for essential workers after this situation ends?
Line Marr
01:54:14
Many surgeries were cancelled (mine included). Any ideas when it could slowly start back again, even at a slow pace?
Rachelle Ramey
01:54:23
Hi Jenica, I don't imagine I'll get to ask my question because you've had such a good turn out.... which is awesome! I'll ask here and hopefully, someone can follow up with me. I am a small business owner, I own Musketeer Farm and provide mental wellness services. I have a fulltime income that pays for my family, but my business has overhead that I am not able to cover with no clients. I am wondering what help is out there for small business. I heard that there is small business loans, but the qualifications and details aren't well described. I would appreciate some help in navigating!
Jonathan Duncan
01:54:45
the Canada summer jobs is saying it is closed for applications
Alana Keenan
01:55:30
My summer job was cancelled with the RCMP, most of my friends who had secured summer employment thru the gov. Have had their jobs cancelled.
Priscilla Grimmer
01:56:08
ya we can't even apply for summer jobs as a student we are truly left in the dark
Raven Blue
01:56:44
I do think we need to start talking about civil liberties. I have spoken to many people who feel there is far too much focus on limiting families and individuals, with respect to social distancing, but much less focus on retail, businesses, and workplaces, where there is a much higher risk of infection.
Paige Stevenson
01:56:45
Alana, I have experienced this as well. Many of my peers have lost their job opportunities.
Alex Hill-Stosky
01:57:16
What considerations are on the table concerning rent freezes in the near future
Tom Richards
01:57:23
People who applied for EI when this started, but are still waiting while their applications are "under review", can't do anything but keep waiting … meanwhile we are ineligible for NBWEIB and it doesn't seem they're going to fold us into the CERB until EI is approved.
Olivia Blizzard
01:57:43
I also lost my student job for the summer, the job is still running but I am unable to get federal security clearance due to the pandemic. Is an alternative to the fingerprinting process going to roll out? Any leniency for students with no criminal records?

There are so many organizations that can use help at this time. Fredericton Community Foundation has launched a Covid 19 response program. They’ve evaluated critical needs and your donation becomes part of their collaborative fund. Also they have a list of other organizations needing funds on their Facebook. And as well the Fredericton Resilience Fund has been launched which is a fund that is going to be matched up to 100k for a 200k total. Both can be easily found on Facebook.
