Not sure if I will have an opportunity to speak so wanted to put a link here for non-profits located in Supervisor Kuehl's District to apply for a discretionary grant. Last year, The Calif Native Plant Society received a grant and also the RCD has received several. Please consider applying! Deadline is October 1st. https://supervisorkuehl.com/grants/

FoLAR is finishing a Prop 1 grant, focused on mustard removal, bird monitoring and mapping in the Basin. We intend to go back to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy to continue this work and would appreciate your input on the best ways to proceed. We can definitely ask for funding for the various groups to do what we do best. Our report for this effort will be finished and ready to share in November. sbacklar@folar.org

Response to Glenn -- Trees along creek are nearly all native.
Richard
01:17:20
Mustard will remain in the seedbank, burned or not. Mustard will thrive post-wildfire.
Barbara H.
01:21:01
George: the mustard is tall where that new encampment is located. N of Burbank, close to E white rock wall.
Patricia Bates
01:23:57
There is dense brush in south reserve, as well as encampments. Dangerous...chances of at least smashing the brush down.?

I recently sent for info on what to do abt fishing. this is what was sent to me.For non-emergency problems (examples: dogs off leash, fishing, hunting without firearms, off trail hiking, parking on grass):1.      Call 1-888-ASK-LAPD(or 1-888-275-5273)2.      California Fish & Wildlife –1-888-334-2258(hunting or fishing)For CF&W, a recording will come on and give you a menu. PRESS ZERO for the operator and the operator will ask for the "violation in progress" and your location and transfer you to the applicable Fish and Game division department. State that Warden Kory Collins is in charge of the area and should be notified of the problem.-----Original Message-----From: therbold@aol.com <therbold@aol.com>To: info@sepulvedabasinwildlife.org <info@sepulvedabasinwildlife.org>Sent: Sun, Sep 13, 2020 12:35 pmSubject: Fishing at basinHiI was at the basin this morning and there were 2 idiots fishing. I looked for a ranger to report it to but couldn't find anyone. Is there a phone number to call?
LA City Park Ranger Haro
01:39:54
m.laparks.org is the website to report park issues. It is very simple, and at the beginning of the page there is a dropdown box to report the issue (Encampments/ Trash Cleanup/ Bulky Items/ Broken Sprinklers/ Graffiti/ Other Park Related Issues.
Ruth Doxsee LBNC
01:41:12
I was at the wildlife lake on Sept. 11 and saw 12 people in various groups fishing and a group of about 8 leaving carrying fishing poles, plus another 4 walking on the trail around the lake with fishing poles. I called CA Fish and Wildlife and reported the illegal fishing.
LA City Park Ranger Haro
01:41:25
The phone number for LA City Park Rangers is (323) 644-6661. LA City Park Rangers work from 10am-8pm in the Valley Region.
LA City Park Ranger Haro
01:42:36
I will try to have our Security Officers patrol the lake daily. They are part-time employees that drive Park Ranger City Vehicles.

01:42:40
Same ruth. So many people were fishing i actually thought maybe it was allowed there now!!
Tammy Herboldsheimer
01:42:55
is anything actually done when we report illegal fishing?
Patricia Bates
01:44:25
My understanding is Fish & Wildlife has been ticketing.
Tammy Herboldsheimer
01:45:10
are there enforceable fines or a slap on the hand?
Glenn Bailey
01:45:27
When Fish & Wildlife officers make their infrequent visits to the Sepulveda Basin and find violations, they do cite,
kiradurbin
01:46:10
I have never seen an officer of any kind in any part of the Basin.
Tammy Herboldsheimer
01:46:23
can signs be posted of fines?
kiradurbin
01:47:10
there are signs at the wildlife preserve but they have long been spray painted over with tags
Patricia Bates
01:47:56
I am designing new signage that will have the infraction penalties...for what its worth
Tammy Herboldsheimer
01:48:01
I've only seen no fishing signs, and yes you have to look pretty carefully to see them.
Tammy Herboldsheimer
01:48:13
thank you
Glenn Bailey
01:50:13
My understanding there are so few State Fish & Wildlife officers covering all of Los Angeles County that they rarely make it to the Sepulveda Basin....perhaps we should contact our State legislators (Gabriel and Stern)?
kiradurbin
01:50:14
awesome Pat thank you
LA City Park Ranger Haro
01:52:53
I will take a look at signage tomorrow. I do notice No Dogs Allowed signs in the lake area. I noticed today that a new coat of paint needs to be applied to the Music to the Soul concrete structure near the entrance to the wildlife preserve east of the Cricket Field.
Patricia Bates
01:53:41
We will put at all entry points - infraction fines are 100/250/500 etc.
Ruth Doxsee LBNC
01:54:23
The static is from Robert of RAP
kiradurbin
01:54:36
thank you so much Barbara. I did post several photos of the wildlife preserve damage including a fallen tree blocking the path
Patricia Bates
01:56:12
Signs New signs will be both English and Spanish, try to cover about everything - also requesting No Camping/Storage/Lodging signs.
Tammy Herboldsheimer
01:57:05
thank you
LA City Park Ranger Haro
02:05:05
I placed a service request for those two encampments S/E of the preserve area. It is behind the foot-trail S/E of the lake. I did not see anybody at those encampments. Another service request placed by somebody would speed up the process- m.laparks.org. The more the service request, the more visits (LAHSA/ BIID Cleanup Team).
Patricia Bates
02:06:08
I will do it tomorrow
LA City Park Ranger Haro
02:06:42
Sounds good. It also allows you to include one photo (less than 5 MBs).
Tammy Herboldsheimer
02:06:49
thank you all for your support and help with the park. I just found it during CV19 and enjoy it very much. so glad to see several awesome groups involved. in these crazy times we are living thru its refreshing to see community come together. I truly am inspired by you all.
Patricia Bates
02:23:46
Do we need a boat to get the water lettuce out?
kiradurbin
02:25:23
aren’t the paddle boats BOATS ?
Patricia Bates
02:25:49
1. Physical Management OptionsWater lettuce can be removed by raking or seining it from the pond’s surface.2. Biological Management OptionsInsects such as the leaf weevil, Neohydronomous affinis, or leaf moth, Spodoptera pectinicornis, feed on water lettuce.
Mark Osokow
02:26:10
Water lettuce can be removed by raking. A team goes on a boat or float while tugging a tub. The rakers plunk it into the tub. Poison is the next level of treatment after most has been removed by raking. Get it before it roots.
Glenn Bailey
02:26:29
Reminder to anyone who does NOT receive Wildlife Committee meeting agendas and minutes, please send your name and email address to Muriel Kotin via Chat. Thanks.

02:27:45
I'd like to receive info, Tammy Herboldsheimer therbold@aol.com
Tammy Herboldsheimer
02:30:06
maybe contact some of the garden centers to harvest lettuce. I'm a backyard beekeeper and some people use it in water buckets for bees to land on to get water. assuming I'm thinking of the right plant. I didn't know it was so bad.

02:32:02
Does anyone know the condition of upper Haskell Creek (along the archery range) as far as any clean up need?
LA City Park Ranger Haro
02:32:59
Haskell Creek near Archery Range has no live encampments. It is really hard to remove trash from that area, since it is very steep.
Patricia Bates
02:33:18
It is not too bad - there is some litter left from last year's sweeps. It looks like the encampments have been kept out. Also Bull Creek could use some tld
NURIT KATZ
02:34:15
there's an encampment and a lot of trash to the left of path in south reserve as you walk along after going under the bridge
LA City Park Ranger Haro
02:34:21
A chain and post were recently placed at the entrance to the trail that leads you towards Victory Blvd. Not sure if Maintenance put the post/ chain in.
