the law appears to make a lot of new commissions and bodies for the purpose of oversight; the criminal justice reform act two years ago did the same thing, but those commissions haven't had the type of impact I think a lot of folks were hoping they would have. What's going to help these commissions have a bit more authority and capability?
Eric Kemp-Benedict

MAMLEO = Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. It's a non-profit association that includes both current and retired officers, as well as civilians. (From their website: mamleo.org)

I’m concerned that a lot of this seems to rely on officers reporting basic facts, but what about the “blue wall of silence”? There have been several cases, nationally and in MA, of officers claiming things that videos later showed were just not the case. What does this bill do to solve that?
Caroline Light
37:29

Thank you Will for all the hard work that you and your colleagues devoted to this. As many Q&A comments indicate, there remain significant distrust of the police community among the public, sense of "us vs. them" police culture, need for more proactive psychological/MH training, and involvement of MH professionals in addressing many situations to which police are called. These will only be successfully addressed by directed funding to implement this law's concepts and return consideration by the legislature to correct issues of public concern that this bill does not successfully address. We the public have a right to expect these issues will get prominent legislative consideration for years going forward.

Liaiah and the God complex is absolutely wrong. However, we all know that video and other things can be doctored up. To assume, means that some innocent people will go to jail. What we can do is have our elected officials change how judges operate. Do they automatically set bail, at what amount, do the impose certain kinds of sentences? The court system is absolutely problematic but we need to change the system through new laws.
