LENA STEEN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE WITH CHRIS HOLDEN ON MAY 21 DUE TO AN UNCANCELABLE MEETING AT THE VA IN LOMA LINDA WITH MY HUSBAND.

25:08
Bonnie: my email from May 12 has no attachments.

26:06
ty cynthia

26:33
thank you

28:30
Yes, corporations absolutely must do their part since they are doing the lion’s share of the polluting. AND, they must work to reduce their use of fossil fuels to make plastic.

31:11
I know my stepmom was in a nursing home in another state and the cost was like $5000 a month

32:13
Agreed, Margie! Plastics are killing everyone!

34:29
TY Bonnie - I found it!

37:01
Don’t find the 2 year bill info besides AB1400.

39:54
Can you give us at least one example of the owner’s entity?

39:56
Please view Priority Bills document to view the document that Jodi was just presenting from right now.

40:21
I'd like to see what Windsor Young has

40:30
Could we get a copy?

40:30
Can Windor share that information with us?

41:00
Bill, locally Contra Costa but not Alameda

44:52
Santa Cruz county has Safe at Home Senior Care

45:34
So before the purchase of a nursing home, ALL violations, in the buying chain and in the new acquisition, will be required to be corrected.

46:34
It's amazing that a bill like SB 515/AB 911 have to exist. People with violations at another facility should automatically be held responsible and denied another license at another facility.

47:36
How about standard prices for various contractors' services delivered to nursing homes? This could eliminate a lot of accountants' work.

51:07
I found an answer online to the question: how many nursing homes have related businesses (as of 2018, when the article was written): “…owners of nursing homes outsource a wide variety of goods and services to companies in which they have a financial interest or that they control. Nearly three-quarters of nursing homes in the United States — more than 11,000 — have such business dealings, known as related party transactions…”. (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/02/business/nursing-homes-care-corporate.html)

51:56
Home Safe Program Fact Sheet including currently participating counties: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/Portals/9/Housing/Home%20Safe%20Fact%20Sheet1.22.19%20FINAL.pdf

55:25
Thanks, Chuck, for that list. I googled Home Safe and my county and didn't get anything, but we are on the list. So that is very helpful.

56:04
Re Carbon Footprint: does this include cap and trade allowances? Couple years ago, I saw a Chilean winery advertising, bragging, that they were carbon-neutral. Well, they're shipping the wine from the bottom of the world, so what they had to do was buy the carbon credits from some company that wasn't shipping goods over thousands of miles. So nothing changes. Is that still a thing?

56:56
Bill I was wrong. Both Alameda and Contra Costa are part of Homesafe.

57:50
Are we going to be introduced to our team and coordinator ahead of our meeting with the legislators so that we can come up with the 3 most important questions to ask by consensus?

58:02
Paying carbon offsets and participation in cap-and-trade should reduce the corporation's carbon footprint, but the accounting (I suspect) will specify what the offsets are and what they are offsetting.

58:02
Thx Cynthia

58:41
Jenny, please put the web site and so on in the chat

58:46
thx Cynthia and jenni

59:55
What is a hyper link Jenny???

01:00:46
A hyperlink is the same as a clickable link which will take you to the meeting directly

01:01:23
please post the website for the lobby day list

01:01:47
My question is that I don't know our coordinator - Jackie Smith - and she doesn't appear to be at this meeting today.

01:02:22
This is what the email looks like from me: cynthial.cara@gmail.com

01:02:44
caralobby@gmail.com917-434-3220

01:02:44
Got it, thx Cynthia!

01:02:45
Please add my email to your contacts so that my email doesn't go to spam. Thank you!

01:02:46
please put in chat on the lobby day website

01:05:04
This is great @Jodi, Jenni, Cynthia and Susan! Can you please share the recording and also the link to the lobby day website?

01:05:32
Yes. We are recording and will send it out to all participants.

01:05:42
Sometimes you will be speaking to the Assembly member or State Senator but I find that to be extremely rare

01:05:42
Great, thanks!

01:06:16
In my opinion reading is deadly.

01:06:51
I agree, Tina! But it's better than stumbling around, not knowing what to say!

01:06:55
I think it's fine to glance at notes--even a good idea--but I think reading makes us seem as if we don't know what we're talking aabout.

01:07:39
We just want to be accurate and reliable in what we say.

01:10:15
Staff members are great! They often know more than the legislator

01:10:25
How do we find out who the coordinator will be for our respective districts?

01:10:25
Very true. CARA does have a stellar team!! It’s incredible.

01:10:57
@Tina - many speakers including the President uses teleprompters, its not a weakness, its another way of preparing and delivering a message. That nice young poet on Inauguration Day read from notes.

01:11:29
Yes, Susan Meyer, Jodi, Jenni and all the CARA people are amazing!

01:11:58
THANK YOU EVERYONE! :)

01:12:25
Yes, practice, practice, practice your reading so it looks/sounds like you’re speaking off scrip.

01:12:45
can host mute folks?

01:12:49
Does anyone know how many members CARA has in Ca?

01:12:52
Very good advice from Eva. If we read, we want it to sound as if we're speaking.

01:14:22
That's a good point about the difference between planning and doing!

01:14:41
(on the part of the corporations reporting on carbon footprint)\

01:17:33
How many members in CARA? From Talking Points: Who We Are:” …representing 1 millions seniors through our 275 affiliated orgs.”

01:17:57
*1 million

01:19:25
Thank you Michelle

01:23:26
Eva: Jodi mentioned we have over a million CARA members in California. I believe the CARA website says we have over 900,000.

01:24:09
I wish she was Assembly woman Hene Kelly!

01:25:03
Right? Hene would be an awesome Assembly representative!

01:26:00
Fran is using the Talking Point document that has been shared for this lobby meeting.

01:27:22
Pick your number. Could be website needs to be updated. Regardless 1 million an easier number to remember, internalize and close enough.

01:29:01
Hello everyone, I will be having another 2pm meeting with UDW. How long this meeting will end? Thanks Editha

01:29:46
Just the disabled and those in APS and not the elderly poor/needy?

01:29:52
Meeting should end about 1:30 or 1:40

01:30:15
Sounds good Thanks Jodi!

01:30:15
@Editha Adams: 12:30pm

01:30:31
hahaha wrong... 1:30pm

01:30:33
Are we going to present and nail three bills in each of our meetings?

01:30:48
The lobby day chart will be available on Monday.https://californiaalliance.org/lobby2021

01:31:26
It is currently offline until we complete the chart more (Zoom details, etc)

01:32:19
Was HoimeSAFE created by AB 11 or AB 1811?

01:32:48
I would like to have a copy of Fran’s script. Please Fran

01:33:13
You all should get the talking points that Fran is using. It was sent as an attachment with today’s zoom

01:34:18
This is the document that Fran is using.

01:35:07
“…owners of nursing homes outsource a wide variety of goods and services to companies in which they have a financial interest or that they control. Nearly three-quarters of nursing homes in the United States — more than 11,000 — have such business dealings, known as related party transactions…” (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/02/business/nursing-homes-care-corporate.html)

01:38:26
****The presentation team and the behind the scenes team are awesome. Y’all rock. I will practice my patience, breathe, and wait enthused for Next Friday. I have to leave a wee bit early for another mtg. @Cynthia, you are a brilliant source. and marvelous chat “monitor” for lack of a better word.

01:38:40
SB650 could be summarized as a way to stop Medicare gouging by SNF conglomerates.

01:39:05
@Rd Plasschaert: thank you! :)

01:39:49
AB 1400 not AB14

01:40:47
Bravo

01:40:48
Frances aHenne, great presentation!

01:40:50
Bravo! Thank you

01:40:50
bravo!,

01:41:03
HENE & FRAN! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

01:41:19
That was a good story, Fran!

01:41:32
Cara Zoom backgrounds can be found here:https://californiaalliance.org/cara-zoom-backgrounds/

01:42:26
Is it correct to deny that AB1400 is like Medicare for All?

01:42:56
AB1400 Would be better than MFA because it would eliminate insurance companies

01:43:19
And it would be more comprehensive in coverage :)

01:44:30
Thanks for all this prep work!! Great idea to make this recording available to watch again.

01:44:49
Thank you well done.

01:44:55
Hene, you look very nice.

01:45:33
Thank you all! You're awesome.

01:45:37
What part of Medicare for All does NOT eliminate insurance companies? I've nosed around in Jayapal's first MFA offering and it looked pretty comprehensive. We can say, AB1400 is more comprehensive (if we know how), but elimination of insurance companies is the whole basis of "medicare for all" which is a Single Payer offering.

01:45:43
i got to go now. Thank you

01:45:46
You all are pretty dang awesome!

01:45:51
I have another meeting thank you all

01:46:06
Have another zoom meeting. Thanks to everyone. Very helpful!

01:47:54
Thank you for all your fine work. Looking forward to a great lobby day next week! Bye for now.

01:48:17
I thank you ALL! CARA has emailed me all information I need for the Lobby visits. I love all the info and all the efforts. thank you so much.

01:51:20
I’m sorry I had a brain fart earlier. Yes, AB1400 is like MFA. I was thinking plain old Medicare.

01:52:15
My apologies for causing any confusion!

01:52:25
You are forgiven as far as I’m concerned, Jenni!

01:53:02
Excellent meeting and role play

01:53:15
Haha, thanks, Jenni, because I don't want us to disparage federal efforts.

01:53:36
Good show!

01:53:48
Thank you, yes, absolutely, all for single payer

01:53:52
thank you all, your hard work and caring is much appreciated!

01:53:58
Role play was outstanding.

01:54:01
Lots of brain farting today

01:54:15
:D

01:54:47
Jodi clarified the distinction—we are talking about a state bill so AB1400 is NOT Medicare for All because its a state bill (however in its essential thrust is the same with some differences in details as far as I know).

01:55:40
What Art said

01:56:53
The Zoom meeting host has the power to mute participants.

01:56:54
Have telemedicine appointment shortly. Looking forward to being part of our Lobby Day.

01:57:44
Thanks All. I have to leave for another meeting.

01:57:59

02:02:37
Glad I was able to sit in on this, and observe CARA’s flow! Looking forward to the visits!!

02:03:09
Thank you for another excellent training. I will be unavailable for Lobby Day this year, but I feel well prepared for next year! Good luck to all on the 21st!

02:03:50
Thank you all, I should get back to lobby stuff. Talk soon and have a great Weeknd!

All that was already sent out last week.

Oops!!! Unmuted! LOL

02:06:41
Thank you all, Marian Arguello

02:06:54
I like Unmated better!! :) :)

02:07:23
Amazing job Cynthia; thank you.

02:07:53
@Elizabeth Pataki: Thank you! :)

02:09:50
Question: Would it be good to wear white shirts and ties for the meeting with the legislators?

02:10:04
@Cheryl :) :) :)

02:11:52
I agree with George. If we care and really want support for our bills, we have to say it like we MEAN it!

02:12:33
Gotta go. Have a great day everyone!!!!

02:13:01
White sheets and hoods recommended for GOP legislators!

02:13:29
Except for that one time…

02:13:44
just don't get up... hahaha :D

02:13:48
BUT DON'T STAND UP ON CAMERA if you're not dressed from the waist down!!!!

02:13:56
Good - the hoods.

02:14:24
Thank you, Jodi and the entire CARA team!

02:14:39
THANK YOU! May our meetings be productive.

02:14:43
Thank you Jodi and the whole team.

02:14:43
Thank you Jodi and all the staff that has made this virtual legislative meeting format very interesting and was clearly presented.

02:14:59
THANK YOU EVERYONE! HAPPY LOBBY DAY PLANNING :)

02:15:12
Thanks Jodi, Cynthia, Jenni and Susan!
