Prince Corbett

From what you’ve heard, what stands out to you? What did you take away?
Rashad Turner - MN Parent Union

Thank you!

I am sorry if this was already addressed, I had trouble with the link, but are there plans for more units at Bethesda? Or is 100 units the max to be provided there?
Director Allen
01:01:40
because youth are still young and in their learning stages, how are we incorporating life skills in wrap around services in order to insure long term stability.
Kaitlin Meye
01:02:16
Typically, individuals are directed to call 211 to complete a prescreening for emergency shelter. Will Bethesda operate the same way, with individuals needing to be prescreened to be put on a waitlist to access shelter?
Hanna Getachew-Kreusser
01:03:53
Where are the sites that are specific to youth? Are you referring to Bethesda ? I am not clear. Sorry
Caitlin Magistad
01:05:17
is there more detailed info available for the housing projects to be funded by the proposed 2021 capital budget $9M Cmr MatasCastillo is mentioning? i.e. when was/is there a staff presentation to the board?

Bethesda hospital would make a great mixed rate housing facility! that’s something this neighborhood would support and I have spoken to a developer who is interested! let’s do that.
Prince Corbett
01:06:26
What is most exciting and where is the opportunity about this initiative to provide shelter for our unsheltered residents?
Melissa Maier
01:08:30
What is the projected increase of homelessness?
Martin Hernandez
01:09:42
How many other vacant buildings and houses can be used in similar ways? some absentee landowners sit on empty property to get bigger profits while people are left on the street. How can the county and other agencies in the Metro Area address this issue.
Caitlin Magistad
01:09:56
I appreciate the info about the referral process. I do think it would be important for people to be able to self-refer, or that the eligible referral partners are widely-promoted for those who are not in contact with law enforcement or outreach workers as they sleep outside

Is the discussion of using the state fair grounds for housing still on the table? Or are other spaces being looked at for the other 200 people who are still unhoused, even after the Bethesda site is filled.
Martin Hernandez
01:14:25
Also, how do systemic, white supremacist historical issues like red-lining and racial covenants play out in discussions of housing policy in general and in the homeless issue in particular?
Commissioner Trista MatasCastillo
01:21:02
Martin, That is a great question. Ramsey County has done a county wide housing assessment with the center for economic infusion and 4th economy and have brought those very things to the for front of our housing needs. We are working in relationship with our cities who control zoning to address what that looks like moving forward. Racial equity in housing is a huge priority for us as a County.

Youth homelessness is a big question because we are all coming out of pocket to house them in hotels. How can we free up some immediate resources to support youth advocates NOW

Great to hear about youth being there for other you! They are our leaders! They can also come up with solutions about homelessness- we should talk to them and listen.

Don’t worry. People are still angry. These meetings have proved pointless for residents. Don’t kid yourself. They just stopped attending meetings because you have made it clear you are dismissing the immediate neighborhood’s concern.
