Good evening everyone, the webinar will begin in just a few minutes!

25:01
Good evening to you!

25:37
Great to see everyone on the call. Thanks for organizing this webinar, and looking forward to learning from you! Terri

41:20
Is there any correlation between hygienists that reported positive Covid 19 and utilization of cavitron?

42:48
Hi there, can you please ask this question in the Q&A box? thanks!

51:34
is there guidelines from osha for the employer that must be done whether required or recommended?

51:53
Hi there - can you please write your question in the Q&A box? thanks!

52:11
oops I thought I was...lol

52:38
if I didn’t have to work I would consider stopping as well , disappointed Cdc didn’t mandate air filtration since we produce the aerosols that’s can travel and infect others in the office .

53:40
I would love for ADHA to survey hygienists to find out how many have or are planning to get the vaccine. Are there any plans for this?

54:09
Hi there, can you please ask this question in the Q&A box?

57:33
There are published studies on daily N95 mask usage in HCW,

58:47
is there a suggested time period to wait to do prophy or SRP after a patient tests positive for COVID? Do they just need to wait the 14 day quarantine? what if they still have symptoms?

59:03
Hi there - can you please write this question in the Q&A box?

01:00:23
if we can’t use cavitron or limit what is the protocol for dentists who always use the high speed

01:01:15
So even with HVE, hygienists are not allowed to use it although dentists use high speed hand pieces with HVE ? why is this different? With or without an assistant, isn’t it unsafe to use hand pieces?

01:01:25
Thank you, ADHA & ADA, for this fabulous, groundbreaking research and partnership!

01:01:28
Hi there, can you please write this question in the Q&A box?

01:02:05
how should I treat my periodontal patients without cavitron type 4 period with heavy subg calculus offices are still using cavitron what's your advice for tx of these patients without perio

01:02:22
Hi there - can you please write your question in the Q&A box?

01:02:40
Thanks so much for presenting this webinar :)

01:02:45
Toni u hav3 to ask under the q&a tab to get answered by the panel I believe

01:02:50
is it legal for a patient to question me if I had my vaccination or why I did not have it yet?

01:02:53
We need to address the belief systems of our colleagues. It is alarming that educated licensed healthcare professionals thought the virus was fake and are antivaxxers

01:03:06
MANY hygienists are using cavitron and polishing daily. Some use limited HVE while others use higher and more effective HVE. Seems like the statistics aren’t supporting no polishing or cavitron despite the type of evacuation

01:03:21
YES - Thank you ADA for the resources and hard work. As a condition of employment…well vaccine may be required…

01:03:22
I would think that we need to wait to find out all side affects before mandating people.

01:03:23
we aren’t required to get the flu vaccine or hep B, covid shouldn’t be mandated...it’s no different

01:03:48
The lack of evidence based research on the vaccine makes a lot of us skeptical about getting the vaccine.

01:03:53
Toni I asked if we could use cavitron or air polishers with HVE.

01:04:09
Oops, thanks all. It’s moved over

01:04:12
A vaccine is when you can not get the sickness again and you cannot spread it.

01:04:32
If that were the case then I could understand mandating it.

01:04:38
agree with Wendy

01:04:48
interesting screening of questions

01:04:58
Thank you for the update!

01:05:05
we can get Covid after being vaccinated?? then what would be the point?

01:06:10
Kentucky is one :) Glad to hear that 13 states are allowing hygienists to be a part of the distribution plan

01:06:22
no one knows anything about this experimental vaccine yet it shouldn’t be mandated

01:06:35
I know people that got the vaccine and then decided to go on vacation to Florida.

01:06:48
CDC said you don’t need to quarantine if you received your second vaccine. if coming direct contact

01:07:11
We don't want them in Florida...lol!

01:07:22
obviously will continue to use proper protocol and PPE but I don’t understand how we can get it after vaccination??

01:07:49
what are you saying by about going on vacation?

01:07:59
Does anyone know of any hygienists that have taken the training required to volunteer to administer vaccines ?

01:08:02
The Emergency Use Authorization stipulates that the vaccine CANNOT be mandated.

01:08:39
informed consent is important.

01:09:26
So interesting…we need California back in the ADHA House of Delegates!

01:10:03
WV is working together toward this goal. We have a fantastic, WV COVID-19 Taskforce with dentists and dental Hygienists working with state government representatives.

01:10:05
I agree with you, Kristy!

01:10:41
@Gail…we pay our dues…our voice should count! :) It appears it does in this research!

01:10:58
good point Kristy

01:11:05
We are stronger together!

01:11:17
As an ADHA paying member, I agree @Kristy and @Gail

01:11:21
I asked my board to participate in the survey and post it too.

01:11:26
Thank you so much for your time and efforts here and sharing the information,

01:11:33
exactly! my previous office would have fired me for telling the truth

01:11:39
CE credit for this webinar?

01:11:51
Most infectious disease experts still caution that you can even if you are vaccinated, you can still shed the virus to others. It is very important that people understand this. The vaccine will prevent (95% of the time) folks from getting sick from the virus, but it doesn't mean you are not a carrier of the virus.

01:11:57
Yes, Kristy! #StrongerTogether 👏

01:12:07
That would be San Diego County and I’m president of SDCDHS. Glad to do it, hope it helped.

01:13:09
Thank you for posting, Kathy! You ROCK!

01:13:21
Ok thank you

01:13:31
did I hear it correctly that we are no longer in the optimization of PPE stage of the pandemic and therefore should not reuse n95s?

01:13:58
CE credits are fine but staying connected and informed is most important Awesome as others have said - to see ADHA and ADA have this partnership. Thank you.

01:14:07
Will this recording be available to us?

01:14:09
#StrongerTogether !

01:14:20
yes! you will receive an email tomorrow of the recording of this full webinar

01:14:24
CA just gave the okay for hygienists to give vaccinations after a 4-5 hour training. This is the same training nurses and all others have to go through. Thank You, CDHA for your support!!!!

01:14:54
Texas hasn’t even put dental professionals in the tier for vaccinations! They dont consider us health care professionals

01:15:05
How many States can have RDHs/RDHAPs vaccinators; administers of the vaccine?

01:15:26
@Gail I think 13 states

01:15:42
@Gail https://www.adha.org/resources-docs/COVID-19_Vaccine_Administration_by_DH.pdf

01:16:49
I’m happy to say my office has maintained our high level of care even during this pandemic. we utilize ultrasonic scalers along with hands along. We use high volume suction and an extra oral evacuation unit.

01:17:17
sorry hand scaling

01:17:36
Right now we are back to landlines vs. iPhone12…they both work…

01:17:54
We have had many patients tell us they will not be back until the ultrasonic is used.

01:18:12
thank you!! I’ve been hygienist for 28 years... it is not standard of care!

01:18:44
JoAnn Gurenlian: can you provide links to those analyses? Thanks

01:18:46
Our 2015 clinical practice guidelines show that manual SRP is the most effective method. Jo is correct.

01:18:59
Thank you, Jeanette! That was fast…so I see not all States.

01:19:12
Do you have a link tom that research?

01:19:13
evidence-based decision making!!

01:19:27
thorough hand scaling and instrumentation is! cavitron is great for lowering bacteria in sulcus but... hand scaling is huge!!

01:19:45
So true I learned that in hygiene school!

01:19:51
Thank you for a very well-articulated rationale, JoAnn!

01:19:51
Amazing research! Can we get a link to the hand instrumentation vs ultrasonics?

01:19:54
Again well said JoAnn! Thank you!

01:20:43
To support JoAnn's answer on SRP, please see Smiley at al, 2015.

01:20:48
JoAnn, I like your soapbox!

01:21:01
Thank you for sharing all of this information!

01:21:07
JoAnn - thank you Well said Good explanation

01:21:18
Thank you so much!

01:21:32
LOL! Like use of high speed drills?! Guess that’s OK! HA! It’s the lack of consistency that becomes frustrating. Can we manage aerosols from power scalers? If we use them correctly, there should be no more aerosol than a high speed drill…IMHO

01:21:36
Yay, Joanne! How did we treat patients before ultrasonics and get results? DUH Hugs!!

01:22:14
👍🏾

01:22:16
I agree Kristy

01:22:18
Excellent call to evidence JoAnn - thank you

01:22:23
Agree Kristy

01:22:26
Thank you all! Stay safe

01:22:31
How were the questions determined for this survey? Did you survey RDHs?

01:22:38
Agree as well Kristy

01:22:50
Thanks! Yes, by "overlap" I was asking about the aggregating/merging of the data together or being separate. I realize that I could have been more clear. =D

01:22:54
thank you for providing the research on SRP, 2015!

01:22:58
what about our hands?? HVE is sufficient for aerosol control!

01:23:03
what practice is that??

01:23:28
Seems like a lot of the questions RDHs on this meeting are concerned about were not asked

01:23:32
Get fired too..

01:23:40
well said!

01:23:42
Well done, everyone!

01:23:48
"Any who RDH who has watched milky subgingival crevicular fluid flush out with a cavitron tip knows a gracey ain't gonna cut it sis," Jennifer Hasch.

01:23:49
Keep talking with ADA, ADHA! It’s long overdue!

01:23:50
thank you

01:23:51
However when high speed drills are used most of the time a dental assistant can control the aerosols unlike when a hygienist is working!

01:23:55
Thank you all!

01:23:55
Thank you all.

01:23:57
Thank you everyone! This was super helpful and informative.

01:24:10
ReLeaf Suction has been a life saver!!

01:24:12
Thank you!

01:24:13
We have had communication between the other hygienists in our office, however one will not obey the aerosol production guidelines from ADHA. What do you do?

01:24:14
thank you very much!

01:24:14
amazing thank you

01:24:15
Enjoyed BOTH sessions! Found the difference between the 2 interesting!
