Good point Kathleen - that first day is make or break on my campus as well.

Kathleen also commented "We have an "Ask Me" campaign the first 2 weeks of school, where faculty, managers, & staff stand in high-traffic areas with badges & try to catch students' eyes, to greet & direct"

This ask me campaign is a great way to get everyone involved and educated! Thanks Kathleen

Kathleen asked "How do you get Classified to these meetings when it is difficult to leave the office, as they are often the offices with highest student contact and need to remain open? Should Classified be compensated for this extra work the way faculty are?"

At my college we ttried to schedule professional development for days when the president could allow classified to attend. We also paid them hourly for overtime when they attended or did special work - but this requires agreements with the Classified union

We are just a little behind - wanted to be on slide 25 at this time

Managers are the key. Also, making sure that classified are paid for retreats and invited to be part of teams that travel to conferences and workshops

Making sure that reports and visits are made to classified senate in addition to academic senate will also get classified employees excited and involved

At recent AB 705 regionals comments about the need to look at noncredit for corequisite and support is key - but all the people also said we do not have a history of communicating well - but we need to

Great point...integrating equity into everything from the beginning instead of having to go back to see if we are compliant

I love that you use the time in the car to intentionally have conversations

Does anyone watching allow for release time for Classified to work on GP, AB705, etc.? How about extra credit for student participation? I'm curious to see how that would work

We have hired guided pathways student ambassadors.
Kathleen Weinstein
01:10:00
Has that worked well? Did you have good participation?
Academic Senate for CCC
01:10:21
We actually hire students through work study to be peer mentors and workers and most of this is directed through Guided Pathways

01:10:46
In terms of classroom and students, I have embedded student assignments in my classes that are directly related to guided pathways. Instead of extra credit, it was actually a 30 point assignment called student engagement and student success analysis

Classified are paid to be involved on our campus if they are attend outside of work hours. We have commitment from all VPs and managers to allow GP involvement as a priority
Kathleen Weinstein

That's fantastic!

Commitment from management is a must so that classified feel empowered to actually attend meetings and participate

Many times we operate on an unwritten separation and treatment for classified work. Being proactive and approaching the union helped us figure out how to create new full-time positions dedicated to GP as well as reassigning them to specific work or assigning them to work at HS and Flex days.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

I would like to have more intentional meetings between faculty heads and the Deans of Student Services to talk about what students are saying to Classified staff about needs & wants
