I have a pond in back garden - I was thinking of that too. I also have that book.

You can go and get reference photos or do it entirely from your imagination

Put your drawing materials out in front of you

cooler in the background, warmer in the foreground (usually!)

darker in the foreground, and more detailed. Lighter and hazier in the background
