From Angela: “I'm starting that next week; pulling kids one-by-one and asking 5-6 questions that are answered on a likert scale to guage how things are going in different settings and if they have a support person at school. Finish with asking if there is something they want to schedule time to talk about more in depth. Use the data to determine tier 2 and 3 services and if there is a need for proactive/preventive lessons programs. As well as being able to get face-to-face time with kids you may not know well yet."

We do a brief introduction of counselors to students in the classroom. Then we sit outside a classroom and call out each student one at a time. We go through about 5 quick questions. What's something you love to do? Is there anything you're excited about being in middle school/the upcoming school year? Is there anything you are concerned/worried about? What are 3 words to describe your family right now? Is there anything you want me (your counselor) to call you down or set up a google meet to talk more about? We also have 2 houses and we ask kids to just briefly describe who is in their house (or houses) right now (during blended learning, part virtual/part in-person). You can also do it with a breakout room in their virtual classroom google meet. When you finish with one kid you tell them the next kid to send out. The teacher can go on with their lessons bc the kids are only gone for a minute or 2.
