Our corporate decision makers won't even let us meet as a staff due to COVID. It's taking it's toll on our community.
Kelly Raggo
56:20
Wah! We aren't allowed to bring in food either!
Kat Grootjes
58:14
@Kelly could you do a zoom meeting and have skip the dishes or give out Starbucks gift cards so everyone can have a treat and meet:)
Kelly Raggo
59:07
@Kat...I'd have to pay them. And that's not allowed either.
Jane Nicholson
59:09
Yes covid has killed our morale. All on zoom for staff meetings in the same building even though we are a really small group
Emma Tempest
59:15
Having a staff Zoom meeting where everyone brings their favourite drink in their favourite cup can feel like community!
Jennifer Roth
59:16
Who does the Staff Buddies for checking in? How do you do that?
Erica Price
59:53
We have done painting parties during our staff meetings - all on zoom, then share our work
Emma Tempest
01:00:48
@Jennifer one way to do staff buddies is to assign pairs for a month or so and they check in with each other in various ways - writing notes, sending snacks, setting up a phone call to chat. You can switch up the buddies every so often too!
Emma Tempest
01:01:34
Staff buddies crested that culture of not only checking in with each other, but also allowing everyone to be vulnerable with no fear of shame or judgement
Jennifer Roth
01:02:09
That's such a great idea. Thank you
Emma Tempest
01:02:36
@Laura Align your policies and procedures with what values you hold as a cenyer

Emma Tempest
01:03:05
Nip gossip in the bud by sharing at staff meetings that it will not be tolerated.
Jennifer Roth
01:03:19
We have a zero tolerance policy regarding any kind of bullying or negative remarks
Kathryn Seidlitz
01:03:27
I've reminded staff that we are a family and work as a team during staff meetings, hoping to boost morale
Denise Carter
01:03:36
At every staff meeting we talk about one weakness we each have and how we can support that person- From time management to stress reduction to delegation.
Emma Tempest
01:03:50
Encourage 1:1 time for staff to vent to you as the leader rather than to the rest of the team. Allow space for venting, but end the meeting with actionable items and teach staff how to share their feelings without blaming others.
Kerry de Voogd
01:04:25
"pin the tail on the the board" A board in the staff room with "something you may not know about me" where staff members can share about themselves OR "Something I do not like" bc everyone has to vent sometimes : the point to the exercise is communication. Take the secret out of the gossip.
Denise Carter
01:04:26
we also use our favorite fruit if someone offended us - such as that felt like a peach.
Sarah Go
01:04:32

Kerry de Voogd

Cheryl Ford

Weekly Meetings- We do 15 minute Mondays.
Angela Kukitz
01:05:51

Denise Carter

Emma Tempest
01:06:16
Yes! Very powerful to write down and keep it in their sight
Shelly Wright
01:06:23
We have every other week staff meetings on Mondays.
Lori Henry
01:06:39
Laura - We have posted "Don't judge my book by the chapter you walked in on." So, when gossip begins, we ask how/if what they are saying is helpful and forward thinking & point out the judgement in the statement they are making.
Angela Kukitz
01:06:42
During work hours, but I have supervisors attend and then they meet with their staff (multiple sites)
Emma Tempest
01:06:49
Also anything that can be in an email needs to be in an email! Use the staff meeting time wisely!
