Collaborative and Open-Minded
Developing the individual potential of each person while living our core values of integrity, respect, caring, and responsibility
Our connoted use of PLCs, being inclusive, having time to really connect with new teachers during orientation.
building that ‘team spirit’ at the beginning of the year will be critical as the school year transpires.
Online games that develop skills and which are fun
Find ways to hear from all staff before we return
build in ways to connect with new parents before school begin
Check ins with all our EAL families
breakout rooms for faculty meetings for smaller connection moments
Intentionally focusing on the social emotional for both students and adults. Friday reflections for students. Virtual ASAs for students to connect with friends in a different environment.
intentional with our messaging to staff and families that this is all ‘new’ to us and this not how we envisioned opening school.
Love that you have the reflection of ‘big rocks’ - this is a focus for our MS team all year!
Its so important to focus on the BIG rocks, so the gravel and sand cannot get in our way!
Model the art of appreciation
Building norms of collaboration for virtual learning with our students.
Holding parent events to share our norms of behavior for virtual schooling
parents, too, need to join the team and play nice.
Developing norms as a group
Additional ways to support for our teachers who have small children at home
I'd like to give a shout out to the importance of accountabiity
Admin. Attendees, try out open drop in hours for parents, it allows for free flow of questions and concerns. Just open a Zoom session and see who arrives :)
I found the communication cycle super helpful
Fran, how might we help members of our admin team who aren't finding ways to self-manage themselves?
I am wondering what schools attending today (or how many) will open the year in August, face - to - face v. schools that are already planning to open virtually?and……… what are schools planing for virtual orientation for staff?
Virtual Orientation for Incoming Staff: We've been setting up some asynchronous sessions for information and then face to face synchronous opportunities to connect
Thanks, Shaysann! The asynchronous bit is interesting. We know that everyone will arrive on or around the same date, but will then go into 14 days of quarantine.
Thank you so much, Fran! Super helpful!
Thank you Dr. Fran!
YEAH, AASSA, we need FRAN in the region!
