Along those lines... How can we incentivize UC students (young people)to spend locally?

How does your organization, the Chamber of Commerce and the City Government partner to promote incentives (tax breaks, low interest loans, etc.) for new entrepreneurs to locate or relocate in these areas of the city and state?

Ric, do we have appropriate representation from late teen/early twenties folks in city planning? In imagining our community?

In what ways do we benchmark what is offered in other similar small cities across the country?

I don’t know if this is helpful, but I think that you could attract more students from UC to go downtown if the meal swipes applied for restaurants downtown? Is that something that could happen in the future? Partnerships with cafes, restaurants etc. (I know that it is like that for some other colleges)

Maybe offer student discounts? Free parking?

I have been really frustrated with the passivity of young adults here - especially with the complaining about the area combined with apathy.

One thing we could really do is welcome immigrants - obviously this is a pandemic and things were severely limited on Trump and now Biden, but immigrants/refugees/ asylees are profound economic multipliers

If it is possible, maybe we should look into a list or something of the places that offer it to distribute to students? I know here are places in Charleston that offer student discounts that many of us don't know about.

I think maximizing the opportunities for people to do things outside in the downtown area is important. The additional outdoor dining options are great. I hope to see more of that kind of development moving forward.
