Cathi King, as a children's librarian, I encourage everyone to reach out to your public libraries for books and booklists about racism and poverty. Sometimes children's and teen books can be great stepping stones or introductions to these topics for adults. I've been re-reading "Dissent and Empowerment, Essays in Honor of Gayraud S. Wilmore." I feel like an understanding of the ways in which our denomination was actively involved, financially and otherwise, in the Civil Rights movement. I also find the book quite interesting in its description of the ways that the denomination backed away a bit...I've been thinking about doing a "read-aloud" of this book, but I want to get permission from Dr. Eugene G. Taylor, who is the editor.
