Ohio has been asking “how do we compare as a state chapter and # of members.”
Mellissa Braham
39:41
Thank you for the kind words! :)
Ashton Brellenthin
40:08
State member comparisons would be interesting to see!
Tracy Jentz
44:44
I think having a better understanding of the timing of awards - fall or spring. It we each knew what was coming, we might be more willing to judge.
Sandy Cokeley
45:37
That worked great for NJSPRA last year, David. Thanks MOSPRA!
Mellissa Braham
46:08
Reach out to your fellow SPRA leaders on NSPRA Connect: Chapter Leaders community too - https://connect.nspra.org/communities/community-home?CommunityKey=06a144d8-10e2-4268-bcf4-80d426f73d2c

David, that’s kind of where my suggestion about a database of people willing to be judges came from. I always volunteer if I see it on the FB page but I feel bad for the people trying to find judges
Ian Halperin
46:29
TSPRA has judges for Illinois. It was fun.
David Luther
46:55
So has MOSPRA, and INSPRA has reciprocated.
Tove Tupper, WSPRA (Wa)
47:01
I love that idea, Maria!

The pre-Seminar Leaders Meeting is the best! I don't want to miss it as a past president!

8 in wisconsin!
Jennifer Dericco
49:31
CalSPRA doesn’t give honorariums for session speakers. We do invest ~$10k in at least one keynote speaker.
David Luther
52:19
MOSPRA honorariums vary — $500 - $1000 (often the speaker asks that a donation be given to NSPRA scholarships)
Tove Tupper, WSPRA (Wa)
53:42
I think the chapter reports are important for accountability and archiving chapter business. The added bonus was helping us easily put together our Mark of Distinction award submission.
Ian Halperin
54:00
Agreed
Ian Halperin
54:29
It's also a benchmarking tool for chapters.
Sandy Cokeley
54:56
Perhaps simplify the chapter reports with just simple factual information and use the vp's to gather the scanning via virtual meetings for connectivity
David Luther
55:17
I like that, Sandy.
Cindy Warner, APR
56:21
I think for the virtual format to work, there will be some expectation that the SPRA leaders be required to attend. I am shocked to hear that some are not submitting their reports as I was never under the impression they were "optional."
Ian Halperin
56:23
Could a SPRA have a position of "NSPRA Liaison" that would work with the regional VP on the reports?
Maria Bond - INDSPRA
57:41
Patrick does a great job sharing updates on the regional NSPRA meetings. Would regional meetings still have written accountability of number of members, finance, etc? I would think the regional zoom mtgs might be best for leadership PD/sharing chapter best practices??
Melissa McConnell
58:11
Will there be a virtual orientation for new chapter leaders this year, in addition to the chapter leader meeting at the Seminar?
Patrick Gallaway
58:11
Thanks Maria.
Jessica Hull
58:27
Really love this idea, Lesley. Thank you.
Melissa McConnell
58:41
Who is the other Melissa McConnell, haha?
Melissa McConnell
59:11
Melissa -- It's me, Amber in Oklahoma. Not sure why it did that.
Mellissa Braham
59:28
So many Mellissa/Melissa's, McConnell!
Lesley Bruinton
59:33
There are some requirements and expectations that NSPRA has of chapters:Required: Chapter cash flow reports that need to be submitted by October 31Required: Chapter membership reports that also need to be submitted by October 31Required: Chapter officer election results (May 31)Optional: Mark of Distinction entries (May 15)Required but less adhered to: Chapter report forms that covers chapter well-being, chapter projects/collaboration efforts, PD programs, major issues/concerns, regional issues of note (probably an estimated 30 to 50 percent of chapters do not submit these reports)
Jennifer Dericco
01:04:51
I love it! :)

As a new chapter leader, this discussion was extremely valuable for me. Thank you all. (ASPRA VP of Programming)
Krystyna Baumgartner, APR (she/her)
01:08:33
I agree with Matthew - as a new chapter leader (NYSPRA VP/Pres-elect) it was great to hear how seriously NSPRA is taking the needs of state chapters. Thanks for doing this!
Tove Tupper, WSPRA (Wa)
01:08:43
@Tracy… we’ll be joining virtually this year!! But you may see him in Seattle 2024! ;-)
