Does a high volume of texting have implications for students' monthly phone usage fees?

I think it depends on the plan they have. I doubt we can answer that question in this session.

Could you send the message to each learner twice? Once in their own language and a second time in English so they have both and can learn English a bit that way?

I'm just downloading the app, and it appears there is a different app for parents and for teachers

It would be SO helpful if we REALLY need to communication particularly important information in a way we know our learners will understand.

Katie, being a polyglot, and having learned 3 languages as a child, I find that I tend not to translate between the languages. It's as if I have a "drawer" for each language. I encourage my students to try to do the same as much as possible. So, I ask them to look up words in English instead of in their language. What are your thoughts?

Can you make it speak the message for people with low literacy in their home language?

If the student has a passage they want to work on, does the app allow for cutting & pasting of text from online sources? or photographing a hardcopy text and uploading the image into the app?

Many phones have the ability to read a message out loud (so even if the app can’t specifically, the phone might be able to……? not sure)

Would the students have to also download the "Talking Point," to send messages to us or does it work like a zoom or webex?

No, she said the students don’t have to download it

If that was an issue, student may be able to get a Google Voice number is order to use this app. Texts to the Google Voice number could be set up to forward to their international number. (Would take a bit a set-up, but may be possible)
