Can people make sure they are posting to Panelists and Attendees, not just Panelists? Otherwise we can’t see what you’re posting in the chat
Brad Sietz, LOEX - Host 1
01:55:41
Remember: if you want attendees to see your comment, choose "All panelists and attendees" from the dropdown, not just "All panelists" (then only myself, Melissa, and Dr. Cooke can see them.
Christine Mueller
01:55:55
Create library instruction assignments/sessions that incorporate critical thinking regarding vetting media sources.
Christina Hillman
01:57:17
I would attend that webinar!
Sarah Jeong
01:59:16
Thank you Dr. Cooke, in my experience growing up in the U.S. educational system, it is expected that all students should read books by white authors, yet when I feel there is general librarian resistance to reading books by non-Western authors and that it should be read by those underrepresented groups.
Sarah Jeong
01:59:19
non-Western authors are not even accepted as universal literary canon
Emily Thomas
01:59:47
And show the authors pictures to accompany the articles, to show what the author looks like (if available)
Regina Seguin

Incorporate assignments that allow for multiple expressions - papers, zines, video presentations, blogs, webpages... In all cases choosing sources, citing correctly etc happen!
Adam Rosenkranz
02:03:40
I would be interested in hearing what sites you and other to which direct your students to determine what is disinformation and what is not… (and what is not)
Ruth Lindemann
02:05:32
I'm trying to think how some of this can be integrated into a one-shot sessions. If I'm lucky, this will be what I get.
Karin Heffernan
02:05:44
How do we reinforce that "all perspectives are valuable" while seeing highly polarized perspectives... such as Alt Right messaging, etc.?
Tricia Boucher
02:05:56
Thank you!
Jo Angela Oehrli
02:06:26
LOL! Thanks, Dr. Cooke, for your recommendations!

+1 Karin
Christine Mueller
02:06:33
Ruth - I have been thinking about that too!
Jennifer Stout
02:07:04
+2 Karen. I personally DON’T think all perspectives are valuable. Some perspectives are just plain shitty.
Kate Wimer
02:07:37
@Karin, We're having a conversation about this at our library and keep circling around to the questions, "What can we learn from this?" with "Why does this author want us to believe this?" No perfect answer yet, but I feel like we're maybe getting a little closer?
Tricia Boucher
02:07:47
Climate change deniers = so much fun in the classroom!
Loretta Spangler
02:10:00
Regarding trust, there is a bit of disconnect between giving examples of harmful gov't propaganda from the past, and encouraging folks to trust gov't information in the present.
Tricia Boucher
02:11:56
A note: if you haven't clicked "All panelists and attendees" in the dropdown when you chat, only the panelists get to see your comment. :)
Ethan Pullman
02:12:35
