The College Careers Community ‘Careers Excellence in Practice’ Spotlight Webinar - Shared screen with speaker view
Who can see your viewing activity?
welcome to everyone = great to have you joining us - please intro in chat if you wish!
Hello, will the slides and recording be shared after the webinar please?
Amanda Redman - AoC Events Team
Hi Nikki, yes we will share the resources after the webinar
Thank you :)
Do feel free to ask questions in the chat!
Do your local schools have sixth forms? If so, how welcoming do you find them?
Key question Liz., thank you.
How / what learning programmes does WSC offer to their SEND cohort? How have they coped with the virtual approach?
They do have sixth forms
We do have access to the students in schools with sixth forms but in some cases we progress students despite the school
As Cath says, we will have some time at the end of the presentations for any questions - please do use the chat function for these - thanks!
Good afternoon everyone, what tactics have you found most successful to get young people and their parents & carers to engage with all of these brilliant online resources and videos? It can be very dispiriting to spend time on a wealth of resources only to see very small click or view counts. Thank you.
All interesting so far, thanks! How many careers advisers do you have on your teams? And how do you divide responsibility amongst them?
Not sure Jamie's slides are being shared......
Good point about how important it is to embed careers into the academic subjects as well Jamie.
Wonderful stuff Jamie. 1)Are there cross curricula careers activities/events for academic and vocational areas to enable students to appreciate variety of job roles in sectors? 2) What are your views regards college staff CPD sessions supported by industry partners; could be Lecture/Tutor experiences of work?
A question for any/all presenters: how has the shift away from face to face careers events due to Covid affected your engagement with parents/carers? Have things got better/worse or changed?
What tools do providers use to monitor and evaluate the impact of their careers provision to ensure that it meets both the needs of their learners and the needs of industry?
I love the idea of a festival of events.
so do I Rose!
It is a community based project as well? So reaching out to families as well?
Did you deliver a virtual version of Up this year?
What was the virtual platform used called? (missed the name)
thanks for all of your questions so far - please do keep them coming in and we'll address these in the Q/A slot...
What portal do Hartpury use for their student portfolios and recording WEX?
For colleges that operate across a range of campuses, I was wondering how you ensure an equality of provision? Especially if subject areas, timetables, staffing and overall culture at each site is very different.
Is anyone using tracking software for careers and WEX? We have looked at Grofar, Changing Education (Connect) and Navigate. Has anyone got any opinions on these?
Any thoughts on Andrew's question on software?
@Simon what platform/tool did you use for your career fair?
We are piloting Navigate and so far feedback is good. It also allows students to take ownership and upload their own careers/enterprise ecounters
Unifrog is also used by two of the colleges in our area
UniFrog and Careerpilot is used a lot in Cornwall.
How do you facilitate meaningful encounters with other Further Education providers?

Hartpury utilises Grofar platform, but we utilise a lot of the Export data functions to support Tutors and Students in making the most of the activities offered.
next issue of Connect to also highlight some important research work around Careers Leadership in Colleges!
We use Connect and aspects of ProMonitor.
What are your ratios Level 6 Careers Advisors to students?
Do you include the IAG given by personal advisor, rather than L6, in your BM8 figures?
How do you interpret BM8 in terms as this is a question which is reoccurring at the moment
To any of the presenters - how do you encourage or embed careers into a tutor's role? How do you ensure they don't just say 'that's for the careers advisors?'
in terms of every student accessing a 1-2-1 guidance interview
We don't count CEIAG offered by anyone other than L6 advisors towards GB8. We aren't at 100% on that benchmark.
What % students actually have 1:1 with a L6?
just to reassure you that we can save the chat and come back to colleagues if questions can't be covered now...
Ben, all of our tutors are expected to complete half term 1:1s to review progress and set targets which are recorded and feed into progress reports which go to department leaders and also to parents/carers.
Will the recording be shared afterwards?
Thank you for the session. I have to go now. Would appreciate the answer on the SEND cohort learning programmes. Best wishes all x
