I work with dual language students at varying levels of English speaking. I feel like an idiot when I am talking to a student and all I get is crickets. I don't know if they don't understand what I'm saying? If they didn't hear? or what? Sometimes a student just sits and stares at me. How do I work that situation?

46:16
Thank you, Jimena and everyone! Thank you, Panorama!

46:31
What a great question Susan - I wonder if folks here have suggestions

46:42
I would give my students non verbal options for sharing

46:50
thank you for your answer. I think we can all learn from you

46:56
Awesome stuff! Just one take-away: Normalizing accents and teaching students and staff dignifying, accepting ways to respond if they need to hear something again.

46:56
Of course @Rachel!

47:00
Nodding!

47:37
I work in a school that have a lot of Spanish speaking students. What is the best way for me to learn to speak Spanish quickly? I feel it is important that I am able to communicate with the students.

48:17
On our Teaching and Learning team, celebrate our “oops” through something called the Oops Slide and share our adult mistakes - important to keep practicing as adults!

48:20
The celebrations are awesome. It brings normalization. Makes one feel comfortable.

48:47
Accent = demonstration of progress! What a great reframe :)

49:49
We can’t…its a webinar

50:07
Muchas gracias!
