The OAA Presents Mori West: Billing Insurance for Telehealth - Shared screen with speaker view
Cindy Anderson
01:59:02
Please mention if we can bill for text or email visits and if there is a special cpt for that? And can we use the quick virtual check in CPT (a G code)?
Malvin Finkelstein
02:01:13
Will the United healthcare Medicare programs cover Telehealth?Patients are asking me questions about their conditions and symptoms via email and asking me questions related to Herbs and other treatments. Should I be billing for this? Will insurance companies pay for this? How do I determine how much to charge for it?-Malvin
Cindy Anderson
02:03:10
Will there be a recording sent out of this webinar?
Ross McCallum, LAc - OAA
02:03:32
Yes there will.
Diane Behall
02:04:22
Notes sent out, as well?
Ross McCallum, LAc - OAA
02:05:19
We will send out the video with Mori's "cheat sheet," as she describes it. It is the condensed version of powerpoint, kind of.
Ross McCallum, LAc - OAA
02:06:00
And CEUs are free for members for this! 2 hours.
Diane Behall
02:06:16
Thank you Ross!
Ross McCallum, LAc - OAA
02:06:36
You're welcome!
Jen Bookout
02:11:40
Can we treat people via telemedicine who live in other states if we are licensed in that state but live in another? E.g.: I live and treat in OR and am licensed in CA. Can I treat people in CA?
Michelle Hawkins
02:19:18
If we do an hour?
Cindy Anderson
02:23:45
What if we had a telephone visit x 11 minutes, and billed it. Then 3 days later the patient gets worse and wants a new telephone visit? Because we billed already and 7 days have not passed, can we Not bill for the 2nd telephone visit at Day 3? Or is there another option that allows us to bill for that 2nd call?
Ann Zimmerman
02:24:36
can more than one increment be billed of these codes?
mari greenly
02:29:29
We have incredible software called Jane and it does have a great Telehealth option browser to browser, secure, etc they may even have the timed email option but I don’t use that part. I had my first telehealth Monday using the software which was designed by an LAc in Canada
Jennifer Moody
02:30:51
charm has telehealth and online communication also
Kiné Fischler
02:31:15
Do we need to get preauthoirization even though we are not billing acupuncture codes?
Erin Fussy
02:31:30
DrChrono is also a great EHR that partners with Chiron for telemedicine, and it’s awesome!
mari greenly
02:31:45
I heard we do not need pre auth but good question
Tooba Durrani
02:31:45
Charm has the HIPPA compliant Zoom (which normally is $200/month) for and extra fee of $20/month.
Tooba Durrani
02:33:11
Spruce offers HIPPA compliant Telehealth portal for $24/month for solo provider with extras.
Tooba Durrani
02:34:01
Another reasonably priced HIPPA compliant Telehealth portal is VSee at $49/month.
Michelle Hawkins
02:35:54
I am thinking that OR says we cannot do a 1st time patient on the phone.
Michelle Hawkins
02:36:25
Does anyone know if that is true? that we cannot do telehealth for a new patient?
Diane Behall
02:36:58
My docs at OHSU are doing new patients with telehealth. I don’t know what codes they are billing though.
Jennifer Moody
02:37:16
as per omb we can't do initial patients last I heard. that was 2 weeks ago. 🤷‍♀️
VANESSA FRITZ
02:37:44
I believe the Oregon Health Authority put out new telemedicine guideline saying that during the Covid emergency we could establish new patients by phone, as long as they are in physically in Oregon at the time of the visit
David Berkshire
02:38:20
OMB has said OK to see follow up and new patients via telemedicine. You cannot treat across state lines including Vancouver, WA.
Michelle Hawkins
02:39:03
I would have waited.
Jen Kearns
02:39:51
Kine for a lot of insurance companies we don’t need the PA to bill for E&M codes. Just for the acu or manual therapy.
Kiné Fischler
02:45:02
Great! Re: No preauth and able to see new patients!
Ross McCallum, LAc - OAA
02:48:29
Here's the link to the evaluation everybody! I'll post it at the end too, though.

Cindy Anderson
02:48:35
Can we bill different cpt codes within 7 days: ex. telephone visit Monday for knee pain, virtual video visit friday for migraine? The 7 day rule is a bit confusing when different problems present OR an aggravation occurs within 7 days of a previous visit. Can you clarify?
Anja Middelzick
02:53:19
CHP told me not to use a modifier code or change the office code (11). That was 3 weeks ago.
Erin Fussy
02:54:10
Did carriers only cover patients with telehealth benefits before covid? Or has it always been according to the provider’s license (i.e. if I’m an acupuncturist, the patient needs acupuncture coverage for telehealth).
Tooba Durrani
02:55:41
June 15th date is per OHA and the Governor of Oregon.
Mia Neuse
02:58:09
June 15th is date for reopening?
Erin Fussy
02:59:48
Florida Blue
Michelle Hawkins
03:00:46
June 15th is for what? I think when Dentists go back. Acupuncturist can be working now if they choose.
Michelle Hawkins
03:01:32
So, we can get paid for the E/m and telehealth? Both?
Mia Neuse
03:01:52
We can but not for routine patients, is my understanding, and Kaiser is allowing patient visits that are referrals from June 15th but not before.
Cindy Anderson
03:03:49
The commercial carriers use language like "covered healthcare providers" are allowed to bill telehealth. Are we only Temporarily allowed to do telehealth and it will revert to Not include us after June (or the end of the declared emergency)? Is that what the dates listed mean?
Michelle Hawkins
03:04:04
The COVID codes were developed after insurances definitions of scope of practice. Can we use the COVID codes?
Wendy Childs
03:04:30
I have a client that got a referral from Kaiser but it doesn’t start until June 15th.
Diane Behall
03:04:45
I am not doing herbs. Can we bill for teaching acupressure or exercises?
Cindy Anderson
03:04:46
Can More say again about text or email visits...I didn't hear those words. Thx
Cindy Anderson
03:04:55
sorry Mori
Kelly Baucum
03:05:22
Are these visits going to apply against the allowed visits for acupuncture on some plans?
Laura Allmacher
03:05:53
how often can a 99212-13 codes be billed
Wendy Childs
03:06:12
Yes I understand they do apply to people’s allowed visits.
Kiné Fischler
03:07:33
Can you just confirm with her about the preach - since we are getting preauth for a specific dx code to be treated
Kiné Fischler
03:07:39
preauth
Sarah Frances Fan
03:08:05
If EM codes are not normally paid but Acupuncture codes are paid are we out of luck for billing that carrier and getting paid?
In Yu
03:08:18
How about “pre-authorization” requirement?
Mia Neuse
03:09:32
So we can’t bill 99441 and 99212 or a G code for a single visit?
Diane Behall
03:10:10
I got an email on Tuesday that MDs can see new patients with telehealth. I wasn’t sure if that extended to acupuncturists
Michelle Hawkins
03:10:16
If we are only doing an E/M does it count toward their limit of treatments? Meaning they get 12 treatments a year will this count as one of those.
Jennifer Moody
03:10:39
say I have a Medicaid pt and only 2 E/m visits allotted for the year... this is still the case follow that preauth?
Mia Neuse
03:10:43
NM - I get they are the same
Jen Kearns
03:11:11
Michelle, not if they get 12 acupuncture treatments, it shouldn’t. At least this is the case for Regence, Moda, OHp…
Wendy Childs
03:11:52
E/M doesn’t count toward their 12 treatments. I didn’t realize that some people are only allowed 2/year.
Mia Neuse
03:12:38
Right - that’s where it gets confusing. Are carriers changing the # of E/M codes a patient can have access?
Mary Jean Brinkman
03:13:57
Many carriers are removing the restrictions for E/M. CHP has removed the 2/yr limit.
Mary Jean Brinkman
03:14:30
Check the following website for a guide to billing with many of the carriers: https://mtslgroup.com/
Dani
03:16:48
Did she say 97110?
Mia Neuse
03:16:56
yes
Dani
03:17:05
Thx @mia!
Mia Neuse
03:17:09
:)
Erin Fussy
03:17:57
Are there any other extra CPT codes (aside from 97110) that we can bill as acupuncturists in addition to the E&M codes?
Wendy Childs
03:18:08
I sent the person tacks and then had her put the tack on specific points. Could I bill 97810?
Jen Kearns
03:19:16
I bill Moda, OHP and Regence plans as just E&M codes all the time and they don’t go against the count or allotted monetary amount.
Tooba Durrani
03:19:20
Spruce Telehealth keeps track of text and email visits.
Jen Kearns
03:20:24
Doesn’t 97110 require that we be in the room? Is on video satisfactory?
Diane Behall
03:22:55
Great! Thanks Mori!
Mia Neuse
03:23:06
Yes- thanks, Mori!

& the OAA board!
Wendy Childs
03:24:31
Thank you all!!!
Mia Neuse
03:25:23
So, for the most part, we can bill E/M and maybe 97110 at the most per visit? Most visits will be only one code, correct?
Wendy Childs
03:25:38
;-)
Amelia Zahm
03:25:53

Use of 97530 similar to 97110?
Brandon Benjamin
03:27:37
Do you know if massage therapists are allowed to bill 97110?
Erin Fussy
03:27:45
When do we use 99422 vs 99212? Does it just depend on the carrier?
Sabrina Matthews
03:28:01
can we use 98960 for exercises and training
Sunny Jaynes
03:28:19
What would be a good fee for 97110?
Cheryl Kalsch-Lowrance
03:28:34
Thank's to all for the help and support.
Brandon Benjamin
03:30:22
