We will look at her flower paintings today- we only have an hour!
O’Keefe often gets dismissed because often used in schools (GCSE and A’Level’) dismissed as a ‘feminine’ artist and a bit kitch perhaps.
But her work is beautiful in the flesh!
Looking through images: Where do you enter through the image? What do you touch first? Think about the planes of the image- what is nearest and far away? Some of them look ethereal- but what makes them this way?
We will now make thumbnails
Four rectangles to play with compositions
Use your fingers to make a rectangle and hold up against flowers if it helps you.
Think about the broad shapes your see and how they fit into the rectangle
Think of it like a jigsaw.
Where are the darkest shapes
Block them in.
Blocking into tones will helps you get an idea of how you enter the picture visually
This is a class about composition
But most of our classes are available to watch online
Think about these classes as adding to your artistic toolbox!
What kind of pencils are you using?
I’ll ask in a second. But I think that Nikki uses a range of pencils.
Polychromos, derwent, etc… but I will ask.
AQUA tone watercolour.- Derwent, Inktense by Derwent, Faber Castel Polychromos
Do you have a recommendation for the colour in the spaces between the organic shapes? Complimentary to colours on the page, lighter or darker?
