HI … it’s JJ from Film Festival Flix. We’re in conversation w/ several tests re: this issue. May I address the group?
FFA Webinars

JJ - we will get to the video portion later
Scottsdale Film Festival
22:28
We have contract issues on the horizon and cancellation clause problems.
bart
22:30
I would love to hear a discussion about people going to Sxsw
FFA Webinars
22:45
Bart - we can address that at the end of the call for sure.
bears rebecca
23:09
Agree with Bart - I’m talking about Covid19 at SXSW not just a get togther
Scottsdale Film Festival
23:50
We also have membership renewal and new member issues to sort through. Ours is a Fall Festival.

The NY TImes addressed what is ahppening in Europe with Live streaming via You Tube- it is interesting-https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/04/arts/music/arts-coronavirus.html?fbclid=IwAR3_uALE_Bw80B7SM2FiuZGHSqPrO2LRMaw-X2o6N3qjPAOWHIWekIJYb_U

Shannon Franklin (Naples Film Festival)
34:25
Okay. Thanks
Nat
34:47
We are in the middle of nowhere, and we have a bi-weekly screening series, so we will see what happens to attendance as the months go by. Our big festival is not until November.

Thanks, Nat. Keep us posted

I’ve been told there is no path to insurance coverage for coronavirus. Period.Even if a state gov declares a state of emergency.
Beth Seymour
36:54
Same on insurance. I have asked several agencies and it seems no one is going to cover this.
Cassidy
37:13
I would like to bring up the effect it has on festival workers. Something we should all consider. Many of our staffers work other festivals and rely on festival work as their main income. Without being in contract but they are holding dates, when an event is cancelled these people lose out on their needed income. An important thing I’d like people to take into consideration when they are contracting and hiring for upcoming events.

We are a small regional festival in April. I queried our filmmakers on their risk tolerance for travel right now, and about 60% were concerned and wanted to wait and see. 40% didn't care.

insurance - SXSW has a communicable disease provision in their policy. So does Coachella

40:53
I’m guessing most of us don’t
Cassidy
41:13
We have actually worked with our insurance agency to also add coverage incase we get sued for someone getting COVID-19 at our event. Recommend looking into that.

How are people negotiating working with another venue that’s not your space for your event? Has anyone had the experience of your venue deciding to cancel even if you were going to move forward?
Nat
44:35
Re: Other venues, I just remembered I wanted to contact a local drive-in theater. That should be a safe screening space!
FFA Webinars
44:56
Has anyone spoken with other arts organizations in their community? Symphonies, etc.
Eric Moore
45:21
Thought the same thing, Nat. Drive in seems like a cool opportunity that people might be more comfortable with.
Clay Pruitt (he/him/his)
46:01
Wondering if any festivals are considering moving their festival online this year to keep revenue flowing.
FFA Webinars
46:40
This is a BIG question!
Jon Gann
46:41
I have some insight as how other types of arts festivals are handling this
Cassidy
46:42
Yes :)
Pat Wright
47:52
Our other arts organizations have instituted a few new policies: They do not recycle programs from performance to performance. They will not touch or take tickets any longer, but will look at tickets and show you to your seat. Also hand sanitizing stations. Wipe down seats between performances.
bart
48:10
I just wonder how many people are going/not going to sx?
FFA Webinars
49:01
Thanks, Pat. That’s good information regarding tickets.
Telluride Mountainfilm
50:09
Thoughts on refunds: In the event that we do have to cancel we are considering adding the option that instead of a refund, the pass holder is could turn that into a donation to the organization.
Sara Zia Ebrahimi
50:16
Those specifics re: tickets are helpful thank you. Any shifts in practices around serving food at events?
Pat Wright
50:32
smart refund option
wendy
50:43
I like the streaming option but how does that effect the eligibility of films for other festivals?
Nat
50:46
Jon, can we set it up to only play at the same time, or an hour window?
annam
51:07
I work with SVOD/Streaming/Event cinema and fesitvals....I worked on the live stream of SHE LOVES ME and it hold the world record-but the platforms and rights are a challenge
Jon Gann
51:20
Nat: You can, but it would be more difficult than a window.

both Telluride Mountainfilm and WSFF On Tour are dealing with organizations around the country and allaying fears across the country is becoming a significant issue. Those of us with tour components are facing a bit of a different view of this.
Cassidy
52:50
Pay wall
johnfink
53:17
Tribeca did run an online component a few years ago that enabled a single log-in to view select content from the fest
Jon Gann
54:23
When I ran DC Shorts, we had an online component (using vhx.tv) that screened 120+ shorts. Was behind a single-login paywall, and patrons had access for the same time as the physical festival ran.
FFA Webinars
55:21
Are their ways to do group screenings online? Like a watch party, with a filmmaker Q&A?
barbaratwist
56:34
If new films are unavailable to be streamed online, perhaps festivals could direct people to previous works available online from those filmmakers and then organize a livestream Q&A with the filmmaker
Theresa Huck
56:35
I am sorry JJ is with whom?
FFA Webinars
56:49
JJ is with Film Festival Flix
Theresa Huck
56:49
thank you
Nat
57:16
I feel like I would still be relatively excited about an online component if I could lock them into screening my programs in order, as designed, and in a time block that would also let discussion happen after as a group.
Clay Pruitt (he/him/his)
01:00:15
Also want to toss our there that we (Seed&Spark) are looking at how to utilize our streaming platform to assist Festivals during this time. We have geoblocking technology available to limit who can see content and could sort out pricing for individual titles and/or passes. We’re very early on this but want to hear from fests that are looking at this solution. I think the main question remains getting filmmakers/distributors/other festivals to allow online streaming under these circumstances.

Theresa Huck
01:03:08
Can I speak to this ?

01:05:32
Do you think the cancellation decision is affected at all by whether 1) You’re on sale yet, and 2) Whether you’ve booked travel yet?

Thanks everyone.- Jeromy, Mill Valley Film Festival. jzajonc@cafilm.org

01:05:47
We (in Detroit) are about to do both in the next 10 days.
Telluride Mountainfilm
01:06:45
Theresa, we are not sending any staff presenters to high risk areas or sending anyone that is uncomfortable traveling. We are also looking at rescheduling tour shows to the summer/fall that are feeling affected or in the case that they are forced to shut venues down.
Beth Seymour
01:06:55
Question: should the festival limit filmmaker travelers from high risk areas (like South Korea)? But not from other areas that are affected, but less focused on (like New York)?
FFA Webinars
01:07:03
Has anyone else put a travel ban/hold on their staff?
FFA Webinars
01:07:18
Good question, Beth
Eric Moore
01:07:49
I am at AFI Festivals, and we have a travel ban on “non-essential travel”. We had to cancel trips recently to True/False :(
wendy
01:07:53
Has anyone thought of a plan for if a staff member or attending filmmaker shows signs of illness?
FFA Webinars
01:08:07
Who IS planning to go to SX at this point?
Dan Moore
01:08:25

Capital City Film Festival
01:08:38
Our dates are April 9-18 in Lansing, MI and we are already on sale and have travel booked. We are communicating with patrons soon on this issue and are still on for now. I kind of wish we were in the stage that freep is because we are quickly running out of options :)

Pat Wright
01:11:55
Is any one planning to attend a festival in the next month or two? Are you rethinking it?
Mark Young
01:11:58
DisOrient Asian American film festival is planning to go ahead for next week, barring any new worsening of the situation. We are having a hard time getting hand sanitizer. We also face the reality that folks won’t come because we are an Asian American film festival and think we’ll be more affected because we’re “Asian”.
Nat
01:12:59
Mark, someone mentioned that it's easier to find the travel size hand sanitizer in stores.
Mark Young
01:13:42
It’s Susan, actually. :) Yeah, that’s where we’ve been looking.
Shannon Franklin (Naples Film Festival)
01:14:37
