Thank you, Ken!

33:16
^ Thanks.

34:53
Do you recommend that someone external to the center is involved in leading this review?

36:23
good question Suzanne - this is designed as a self - review -

37:46
The rubrics gather data across the institution. External review may come following an initial internal review.

39:00
That makes sense! Thank you.

45:27
you mentioned you could plug this into a Humanities center for example - do you think a center could essentially delete “STEM” throughout this guide and use it to self-assess role in undergraduate education more broadly?

46:07
Yes, essentially that is true Sarah and that is what those that have utilized and piloted have said

46:34
great, thank you

50:46
Does the Guide and its tools assume that Centers focus on working with STEM departments/colleges and faculty, rather than working directly with STEM students?

53:05
Hi Janet - this guide is focused on the centers work to support ug stem ed within the institution - less of a focus on work with students directly - more of an indirect impact. Does that help?

53:57
Yes, thank you!

54:36
Hi Deborah, some of us on this webinar oversee stem-based peer academic support centers. I'm here specifically to see if this guide for self-study could be applied/adapted for use by a tutoring center. Thoughts?

55:15
I think this guide will be very useful for evaluating these centers. For those that have used the guide already, how might this tool be best used for those of us at the beginning of developing/forming a center?

55:23
@Grace, my center includes STEM peer tutoring. I definitely see applications to tutoring support programs!

56:27
I have a similar question to Tonya - seems like a good tool for planning ahead, but would love to hear more thoughts on that.

57:58
It seems like using the tools in the guide to compare your center with others across the nation might lead one to “overrate" their center. Any thoughts on how to avoid this? A distinction between self- and outside-evaluation would probably be important.

58:14
To the questions about application to new centers: this guide could frame conversations with campus leaders about priorities for an emerging center. You can't do everything, so you could use it to get consensus about initial priorities and plan strategic growth.

58:33
^^ @Grace - I second what Jenny said, since the tool can help peer tutoring centers reflect on where/how they are assessing their work, implementing evidence-based practices in peer tutoring, and partnering with others to achieve their mission of broadening participation in STEM.

59:38
We focused on STEM disciplines because this project was funded by NSF, but this is applicable for any discipline.

01:00:01
@Janet B. It might help to create a team to use these tools. That way, your team can compare notes and keep one another grounded.

01:00:45
@Ken - Good idea! 😊

01:00:48
@Janet: I agree with Ken's idea, and also to view the guide as a way to identify potential. By being honest about where you are, you get a nice picture of where you could go.

01:01:20
Great point, Jenny!

01:02:29
Are there any plans for a data repository so that there is normative data for scores? This could help build the research base and help centers figure out what a “average” score is.

01:04:40
super talk, thank you, I have to leave for another meeting now but if the guides are available I'd love a copy anthony.cronin@ucd.ie - thank you

01:05:31
thank you

01:05:41
Is there a step in which a Center should assess whether and to what extent its mission aligns with the “Center Mission” column?

01:06:54
Thanks - I have to run off to another meeting!

01:07:18
Great thank you!

01:07:52
When engaging folks outside the center to do the B rubrics, would you recommend we reach out to them module by module, or all at one go? It might be hard to get access to senior administrators to request their participation, for example.

01:08:13
Thank you

01:08:45
Our center is considering creating a stakeholder advisory board, but a quick search of the guide didn't show this is necessarily something in the guide. Is an advisory board something that any of your 12 case study sites had?

01:09:26
This is really helpful! Thank you!

01:10:30
Some of the varying descriptive features of centers and how they work will come out in the reflective questions that are part of each module.

01:11:11
Yes, thank you Jenny! That is part of the resource.

01:12:03
Thanks for this great tool, I'm thinking of several ways to use it.

01:12:17
Thank you, really love this!
