I have testified at our Board of Supervisors (Los Angeles County) several times re: mental health issues, especially regarding Adult Residential Facilities a.k.a. Board & Care facilities for Adults who have Serious Mental Illness.
Brianna V (she/her) - NAMI CA
44:23
Excellent Barbara, thank you for sharing! This is something folks on our call can do at their own Board of Supervisors meetings.
Brenda Scott
47:19
This needs to be restructured because fast growing counties like Riverside and San Bernardino are given a lower allotment that does not take in account for the growth in these counties
Barbara Wilson
57:45
Is any portion of that 750 million available to ARF's?
Crystal Harding, Impact Sac/Liberty Towers Black Child Legacy
57:47
how do we citizens, organizations and stakeholders hold boards accountable. ie Sac BOS funding law enforcement, instead of investing in people - children, youth, adults, seniors, organizations, programs, services.
Crystal Harding, Impact Sac/Liberty Towers Black Child Legacy
58:45
and then once within county... which districts get what. is it equitable?
Lana Sawyer

My experience with local MHSA offices is their staff rocks and works well with other community MH non-profits

The California Children’s Trust and California Alliance also put together this brief on actions counties can take to shore up the mental health provider safety net, and are also tracking what counties are implementing. The brief and tracker are at this link https://cachildrenstrust.org/our-work/#covid19
Lana Sawyer
01:09:46
This is so prevalent in 2020, added to Covid 19, it is essential to address SUD
Maricruz Rodriguez
01:09:51
Trying to press this in the work environment
Barbara Wilson
01:11:08
Often now there seems to be an assumption that all adults with SMI also have SUD so that it's often difficult to get non-substance abuse treatment. One extreme or the other vs individualized treatment.

Seniors living on Social Security only, with the cost of living rising due to Covid 19 find it harder and harder to pay for their healthcare expenses. If they live in public housing, they can see their rents increase by the number that shifts from healthcare to paying for food, essential services, etc. Their housing sliding scale is based on monies spent on pharma and healthcare,

The issue of anosognosia, or neurological lack of awareness one lives with serious mental health challenges cannot be ignored.
Lana Sawyer
01:26:06
In many counties, persons who have more serious physical health issues combined with their mental health illness will find themselves shipped to another county that can handle both issues (often far from their family support)
Douglas Dunn
01:26:55
Here in Contra Costa County, AOT is, at most, a judicial treatment order which "orders" a person into a treatment team. That treatment team has the responsibility to persuade a person to accept treatment, along with housing and a full "spectrum" of other services.
Lana Sawyer
01:28:15
If on top of a mental health issue, a person is unable to walk (wheelchair bound), it will be even harder to find them housing prepared to deal with that issue as well
Douglas Dunn
01:30:28
