@Darren thank you; I consider myself very fortunate to have such a nice work space here at home :-)
deidre
50:22
It wasn't enough time for sure. Asynchronous group, does anybody have an idea other than the "Introduce yourselves"?
Andrea Buchholz
50:40
That’s pretty much all our group got to. :)
Deborah Stienstra
50:50
Can’t find it. Is it in a different place for Macs?
deidre
50:54
How about small group discussions on guided topics?
Kris
51:10
CL = Courselink
shickson
51:49
How come it's super-imposing text?
shickson
51:54
Ah - never mind -
Andrea Buchholz
52:13
How do you ‘un-super-impose’ the text?
deidre
52:22
Kahoot has a word cloud function as well that can be a fun class project.
Katherine Drotos
52:37
Andrea - you can't sadly, once they're overlapped they're stuck like that
Andrea Buchholz
52:55
Thanks Katherine - appreciate the insight.
Fiona
53:11
Annotate access has vanished
Char
53:19
I can't access annotate while Theresa is in
Fiona
54:21
sorry same one -
Rich Couto
54:23
you should be able to do "view options" then "Annotate" to bring up a tool bar
Lena Paulo Kushnir
55:45
great demo of active engagement!
Jacqueline Murray
56:54
What is phone a friend?
Andrea Buchholz
58:56
How do you do the poll asynchronously?
Carolyn Creighton
59:16
@Andrea, we will actually walk through that in our demos today.
Rich Couto
59:17
Sorry Jacquline, im not familiar with Phone a Friend personal, well investigate and get back to you.
Andrea Buchholz
59:30
Ok thanks Carolyn
Carolyn Creighton
59:39
You can recreate peer instruction in an asynchronous environment by using quizzes and discussion boards.
Jacqueline Murray
59:39
Thanks Rich
Andrea Buchholz
59:57
Thank you
shickson
01:03:57
Thanks Theresa! That was really helpful!

Darren Robinson
01:04:43
Thank you Theresa!
Theresa Bernardo
01:05:23

Cheryl Trueman
01:06:09
what is PEAR?
stasnim
01:06:15
Thanks Theresa.
deidre
01:06:33
and how do we use PEAR?
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:06:42
@Cheryl: Peer assessment and evaluation
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:07:00
Rich will review and demo in greater detail on Thursday
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:07:08
in Thursdays Webinar
Kris
01:08:41
which student response systems are free? Kahoot is charging users now, right?
Sarah Schorno
01:08:57
Kahoot's basic package is still free
Rich Couto
01:09:19
PEAR is a tool that allows students to assess and provide feedback to other students in several different ways. A quick overview video of PEAR can be found here https://peartool.opened.uoguelph.ca/
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:09:20
that's what I though too... basic still free
Kris
01:09:41
thx!
deidre
01:09:43
I think we have to pay for the professional versions, but not the students (re Kahoot).
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:10:11
ah, good to know @deidre
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:10:19
thanks
Theresa Bernardo
01:12:04
I couldn't do it because it wasn't my zoom room
Tamara A. Small
01:14:20
Can you turn on and off annotation on the fly? Or does it need to be set up before?
Rich Couto
01:14:39
I just tried to turn it off, will have to investigate further
Rich Couto
01:17:34
You can disable participant annotation within a meeting, for only that meeting. From within your meeting, ensure you've started a share screenFrom the bar located at the top of your screen, click "More"From the drop-down click "Disable Attendee Annotation"
Rich Couto
01:18:42
we've also recently created an instructional video on Virtual Classroom, take a look after the webinar.https://opened.uoguelph.ca/instructor-resources/educational-technologies-instructional-videos#VirtualClassroom
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:18:50
good to know @Rich; thank You!
Denise Mohan
01:19:29
I imagine the class list is automatically available in VC. What about class list integration with Zoom?
Rich Couto
01:20:09
both use the Classlist to limit access
Deborah Stienstra
01:20:32
How does this work with screen readers?
Denise Mohan
01:21:32
@Rich. Thanks!
Rich Couto
01:21:56
We are still looking into accessibility and Virtual Classrooms
Lena Paulo Kushnir
01:22:26
lol; I love Elliot our meeting cat
Deborah Stienstra
01:25:38
@Rich Thanks! Can you let me know when you figure out accessibility of each?
Rich Couto
01:26:27
Ill make a note of it and reach out to you.
Andrea Paras
01:27:51
If you create break-out rooms for a Zoom meeting beforehand, is it possible to save the group settings for the next meeting. Or do you have to set it up manually with the CSV file every time?
deidre
01:29:00
If a course has 400 or 500 students, will the prof or GTAs need to add the rest of the class (after 200) manually?
Michael McBurney
01:29:19
How do you integrate polls into a lecture? In other words, how does one find and access poll 6?
deidre
01:30:18
Ah, I see. Thank you.
deidre
01:30:46
Good to know.
Michael McBurney
01:31:15
In either. Thinking about having a flat pdf presentation that I want polls throughout
Michael McBurney
01:32:24
ok. Thx
Catrien Bouwman Bouwman
01:34:01
My class will be divided into sections (as if they were labs). Can I make groups within sections?
Rich Couto
01:35:12
@Catrien, CourseLink Support can help you with that. They have custom tools that will allow for creating groups by section.
Catrien Bouwman Bouwman
01:35:26
thanks!
Rich Couto
01:36:11
Just email courselink@uoguelph.ca with the details include the course site, the number of groups, or the number of member per groups.
Rich Couto
01:36:46
Category name and group prefix also if you have a preference
Andrea Paras
01:37:59
If we wanted students to sign a group contract outlining their collective expectations for group work, would the locker be an appropriate place for them to upload it (so that the instructor and TAs could have access)?
Kris
01:38:14
If set up dropbox for group and add rubric. Once the rubric is filled out will it export grades to all members?
Kris
01:39:39
wow! cool!
Fiona
01:40:20
yes please
Kris
01:40:24
Nice! thanks!
Rich Couto
01:51:14

Thank you, this has been helpful. I have a meeting at 11:30 so I need to sign off. Take care everybody.
michelle elleray
01:58:22
there were questions earlier about what phone-a-friend is? (raised by a participant)
Rich Couto
02:00:11
@michelle, sorry someone responded to me directly, but I thought it was to the group … phone a friend is a game played in synchronous lectures - I voluntell a student to answer a question, they can either do so right away or choose to consult with colleagues before coming back with an answer
Jacqueline Murray
02:02:32
Thanks very much!
Fiona
02:02:35
thank you that was very helpful
