Create an organizational if-then: If your cameras not on, then I don’t talk to you. (Or positive flip: If we’re having a conversation, then you’re cameras on). I’ve done this with all distributed teams I’ve managed and it’s worked great

A tip in smaller meetings is if people want to talk while someone else is talking they hold up one finger, and then the next person would hold up two fingers, etc.

Harry Lubitz
17:43
Is it possible on Hangouts?
Davey Dupuy
17:48
We’re doing virtual happy hours on Fridays. Only 1 rule… no talking about COVID. And we’re going to have a corresponding slack channel where you can post based on the ice breaker. Like worst haircut kid photos, worst outfit, etc...

18:55
all about the routines
Izzy - Healthify - NYC

We are HQ in the Chicago area. Our Costa Rican employees are 98% all professional software developers. As IT pros, they are used to working from home. So they also have government mandates on WFH days due to local traffic congestion, so they were the most prepared for WFH in our organization. One thing to keep in mind re: inclusion when asking employees to share photos of their workspace since we did that w/ our 3k+ employees and got this feedback, be mindful of the class divide that this may bring to light. On our chitnchat slack channel, we're normalizing the distractions by inserting humor. For everyone staying home with children or pets, post something that they are doing but call them your "coworkers"i.e. Some favorites:My coworkers are hitting and kicking each other, management has turned a blind eyeMy coworker just farted so loud and refuses to own up to itMy coworker just came in, kissed me on the cheek and told me he loved me. HR has been alerted to the situation. My coworker slept in a tent in my living room last night and now is so tired that she is crying when we have a meeting to review her assignments

Hi! I’m a new hire;! I started on Monday 3/16. I have to say the only thing I would add is more breaks. It’s a lot getting used to WFH for a lot of us and although it’s amazing that we still have full working days, it’s a lot of sitting in front of our screens. Even if it’s just 5 minutes, those designated breaks would be great :) Otherwise my new People team is doing a great job making Orientation impactful.

I will say I'm lucky enough that the head of HR is almost like our cohead so we always had a spot at the table
