Love that! So much energy! :)
Juan Garcia
44:27
Would the weight classes be the same as the boys?
Pat Tocci
44:57
No…Girls would have their own weights
Chris Atkinson
45:09
Weights in other sanctioned states have been different than boys
Matt Mcconnell
47:04
Would there be any other rule differences other than the weights?
Pat Tocci
47:22
No
Chris Atkinson
48:05
Not really... We are keeping things folkstyle... Wrestling then becomes just for girls just like the boys.
Gary Brownell
49:16
Uniforming rules are slightly different but they're already included in the NFHS book
Pat Tocci
49:28
correct
Chris Atkinson
50:23
I have NFHS rules for girls uniforms and hair rules if anyone needs them... We will get out to you.
Chris Haines
50:31
Prior to PIAA sanctioning can girls still be on the boys roster even if that school offers a girls team?
Jim Pokrivsak
50:36
Until PIAA sanctions Girls Wrestling, who would pick up the Catastrophic Insurance that PIAA currently covers should a severe injury or death occur? I believe school insurances are limited and PIAA picks up the “extra”?
Pat Tocci
50:52
Chris…we are going to address that on the next question
Chris Haines
51:10
Prior to PIAA sanctioning how will competition points be used/applied per school?
Jim Pokrivsak
51:31
Is there a Wrestling Organization that would offer the “Catastrophic Insurance” to schools offering Girls Wrestling?
Joe Stabilito
52:07
USA Wrestling would offer insurance to cover the girls.
Gary Brownell
52:45
Wouldn't they all need to buy USA Card individually?
Joe Stabilito
53:24
We could possibly do a high school team card just need to clear with USA Wrestling.
Jim Pokrivsak
54:35
Is there a plan for an organization in PA to offer something like “District” or “PIAA” championships next year? I know when I assisted starting Competitive Spirit about 8 years ago, a local organization held a “championship” type format. Then about 4 years later, District XI and PIAA sanctioned it.
Daniel Heckert
55:52
Jim, we do have a PA Girls State Tournament put on by PAUSAW
Joe Stabilito
56:22
Yes it was in Gettysburg this past March
Biff Walizer
56:26
What makes the PIAA different from the other state high school athletic associations who have already sanctioned?
Jim Pokrivsak
56:49
Correct. Will that stay in place and anticipated date in March 2021?
Pat Tocci
56:59
Just the bylaws..some states have more flexibility in their bylaws
Gary Brownell
58:15
I don't think the other states had a specification to have 100 actually school district approved teams to have a championbship event
Chris Atkinson
59:01
NY is fighting a similar battle as PA with regards to requirements to start a new sport...
Nate Naasz
59:09
Bill, here in Kansas the KSHSAA requires 24 schools to have a sport before sanctioning a sport. Each state has its own process for new sports/activities.
Nate Naasz
01:00:01
KSHSAA however didn’t mandate that the school board sanction vote to have a team, they counted schools as having a team if they had females on the roster.
Juan Garcia
01:00:43
Would the female wrestlers be part of the track weight certifications?
Gary Brownell
01:00:51
They tried that loophole here and it didn't work
Joe Stabilito
01:00:55
Yes!
Pat Tocci
01:00:59
yes…we would want them too
Jim Pokrivsak
01:01:53
What are the established weight classes for girls?
Pat Tocci
01:02:08
We will address the weight classes
Nate Naasz
01:03:44
One thing that we didn’t have to deal with in Kansas was competition schedule points. Our competition points are applied to each wrestler and not the team so we could send a Varsity boys team, Varsity JV Boys Team, and a Girls team out to three different tournaments on a Saturday. This flexibility really helped us get things rolling. Am I correct in understanding that the PIAA assigns competition points to the team as a whole?
Pat Tocci
01:04:29
Correct Nate
Stephen Rivera
01:05:14
How about descent plans on track?
Matt Mcconnell
01:05:46
If girls wrestling gets sanctioned in PIAA, can one girl wrestle on both the boys and the girls team?
Jonathan Mitchell
01:06:38
No, Matt. But a girl could still wrestle on the boy's team if the principal determines the girls' team doesn't meet her needs.
John Bolich
01:09:05
Any suggestions for finding girls interested in coaching, rather than putting that responsibility on the AD? I think it would be helpful for my case with the AD and to prospective participants to have an experienced female coach.
Stephen Rivera
01:13:05
We were wondering about John’s question as well
Gary Brownell
01:15:17
What about checking the USAW/PAWF membership database for girls in the area?
Juan Garcia
01:15:45
We at EEACS were looking at hosting a fall preseason tournament and would be able to add a girls division.
Daniel Heckert
01:17:03
Juan, that would not count towards the actual competition points since it is preseason
Chris Atkinson
01:17:29
Correct dan
Tad Harbert
01:20:12
What might the sample schedule look like this year for the McCaskey girls to get matches
Jim Pokrivsak
01:21:55
Can you get us facts on the current GW state championship, how many years, etc. The more facts the better when AD’s are presenting to school boards.
Chris Atkinson
01:22:22
Tad... D1, D3 and D11 are working hard on starting seperate girls tournaments... There are already several in our list for 20-21 season...
Pat Tocci
01:23:15
yes, JIm…Good points…we have that
Kevin Franklin
01:25:24
