This is great to hear! We have research saying that mothers who have COVID can room in and breastfeed their infant! Do the hospitals have this information? I have heard stories of doctors and nurses taking infants away and not allowing mothers to breastfeed. How can we make them feel comfortable during our home visit when they have already been scared at the hospital?
In our hospital, if a client has any hx of depression, PPD, anxiety, we complete the PHQ-9. We asses if they have completed therapy and taken medication and if they are open to it again, if needed. We also have an internal policy to fax the PHQ-9 results if score is 10 or >. and of course, inform the client, that we will be doing that so that the OB provider can follow up.
What's your recommendation for asymptomatic mothers who teste positive Covid. Do we have to separate them from their baby? What if they have Covid symptoms. I have the same questions for breastfeeding and Covid.
Does that answer your question too, Blandine?
yes. Thank you.
Yes, thank you.
is it possible to have false positive Covid tests, ? had a mom w/ scheduled c/s that was neg test 3 days before surgical date and then tested positive in the hospital , and then tested neg again after discharge 3 days out?
Thanks for your question, Tanya! I will bring this up at the end.
How many visits are covered PP under emergency Medi-cal? Some of the patients have told me that their clinic covers 2 visits after C-section. I was worried about an infection and since she had already attended her first follow up, they told her that her next follow up was at 6 weeks. They wouldn't see her!! I had to recommend the ER.
If MC mom has COVID-19 and runs out of the Emergency Medical post partum coverage, MC should continue covering her expenses under COVID coverage.
I have read that baby is able to get needed vitamin D if mom takes at least 6,400 IU as this gets transferred to breast milk...what are your thoughts about this?
When baby has lost weight and told to start feeding formula every feeding how would you suggest getting off formula if there is no follow up appt to check weight until baby is a month old? I have had clients who were told to feed formula 2 oz after being at breast but mother’s are hesitant to get off of formula.
If you need to leave, no problem! I will send out an email with the recording so that you can watch then end if you’d like. If you have time and would like to stay, you are more than welcome to! Thanks everyone
for formula fed babies, 1-3 stools in 24 hours are normal?
I heard rectal temperature is not allowed anymore.
I also heard the same thing about Rectal temps.
I am collecting all of the questions to bring up at the end!
how open are you to spreading out the vaccinations if mom is willing to go in say every month to get shots, some moms don't want to give as much at one time.
As flu season approaches would you recommend warm or cool mist humidifiers?
Just a reminder, if you need to leave no problem! I will make sure that all of the questions get answered and will email everyone the answers to all of them!
wondering about telehealth assessment for welcome baby nurses, if doing a video chat and baby is sleeping and all verbal assessment is normal for the baby, and mom does not want to undress the baby for the nurse to do assessment, do we still have mom awaken the baby?
the poll doesn't let me click on more than one answer
