How do customers do preorders? Phone?Email?
Wrightstown Market is planning to be open March 28th - going to be outside our church location. Heavily encouraging pre-orders along with pre-paying. Encouraging our vendors to create online stores if they haven’t already done so.
Helaine here from Historic Lewes Farmers Market in DE. DDA will not allow markets to open open until May 15.... We are trying to get that changed. Meanwhile, we have a work group started to try and develop a large drive-through market. Thanks, we are learning from lots of markets across the country.
Thank you Cheryl and Helaine for sharing!
Has anyone used a software like Local line for preorders?
Nazareth Farmers Market is still planning on opening May 2.in Center Circle, Nazareth, PA. With vendors farther apart, eliminating sampling, customers are discouraged from handling product. etc.
Nazareth will be yes!
yes we have handwashing at our market
Farmers on the Square - we ordered a portable hand washing sink and portapotty for market day
Yes, they are not difficult to do.
agree with Helaine - you can use a water jug, and soap.
Peters Township Farmers Market doesn't open until May 27th, we are still planning to open if nothing else changes
Bethlehem Farmers' Market (at Lehigh U) has postponed opening that was planned for 4/30 because University has cancelled events. We are trying to determine if/when to open for the season. Considering a delay until late summer to coincide with students' return to campus (we hope).
Be careful with porta potty--way to contaminate.
Farmers Market Coalition recommended trying a different layout for the market which encourages customers from congregating in a central area. Has anyone tried rearranging their vendors?
There is a spigot you can put on a 5 gallon drink container that the PDA approved for hand washing.
Did I miss something? Aren't we supposed to avoid groups of more than 10 people?
Swarthmore is scheduled to open 5/9, but we don’t think we will be able to open that early. We haven’t heard from our borough yet, but we don’t think they will allow us to set up that early. So far, from what we’ve seen at other markets, they’re having a really hard time getting people to keep to the necessary distances.
can we get a link to the spigot?
I can share that with you maria
markets are essential food retial
It is my setup
Any thoughts on porta potties? We are outdoors and normally use local business bathrooms, which may not be available in this situation.
I am Nazareth Market mgr, but know that Easton Market is putting up stanchions and such to put distance between people.
I hadn't thought about pets. Thank you for that thought!
If we missed PASA’s webinar this am, can we still access it?
MARIA L GRAZIANI
Yes on PASA's webinar - I believe it will be recorded and a link will be available on their website. you can always contact email@example.com to get it!
Venmo would be a terrific option for handling cash transactions however isn’t it just for personal use, not for commercial use?
Thanks Maria! BTW are you on a beach somewhere?lol
Do the markets on here use a token system? Thoughts on continuing that this season because the tokens pass through so many hands and are not cleaned between uses.
Venmo is not a POS system for business transactions however Paypal or apple pay can be used for business purposes.
The hand wash setup was for my permanent license still looking for condensed drawings
you mean for just harvest? Square works fine for me
Most recent publications from Penn State Extension (one on farmers markets coming very shortly) can be found here: https://extension.psu.edu/shopby/news
Handwash station video - you can get the spigot on amazon for about $5. I have a table with a basin that it pours into and put a bucket below to catch the water. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS813US815&sxsrf=ALeKk019Iz6ammTid_ptciW6ONajKFkzNw:1584732488376&q=portable+hand+washing+station+diy&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiLi6LI5KnoAhXXgXIEHZGbALYQ1QIoBXoECAsQBg&biw=854&bih=707#kpvalbx=_tRl1XoaEOcWrytMPo-uG-AM50
Do any vendors have a sense of how much the COVID-19 public health crisis will affect yearly sales overall? How much of a decrease should vendors be anticipating?
Sorry better link to video https://youtu.be/SMa5OTa3PnU
Reza, I don't think anyone can predict that and they have an increase but I don't think anyone knows

Maybe new token purchases could be treated with polyurethane or something???
anyone limiting vendors? Just meat and produce?
In Nazareth's case, we may not have access to business bathrooms that we have had in the past.
They said on the PASA webinar this morning that it seems like craft vendors will not be welcomed at markets bc they are non essential
so, if soap is essential, what about body products like deodorants, balms, lotions, etc?
MARIA L GRAZIANI
Here is Governor Wolf's list

possibly with soap - chemical manufacturing + general stores are life-sustaining, so maybe soap fits in. I can not give a definite on that.
Is anyone limiting prepared food vendors?
We’re asking people to only bring pre-packaged foods - no preparing anything at market.
If you/a vendor have a question about what is life-sustaining or would like to seek a waiver here is how:As a follow-up to today’s announcement from the governor, any business that believes it should be considered a life-sustaining-business, would like to seek a waiver and wants information on the process, can email RAfirstname.lastname@example.org.Any business with questions about whether it needs to close, can contact the administration at email@example.com.
Haven’t decided that yet…
What do you think about food trucks that attract large crowds, Cousins Maine Lobster for example
I think it’s best practice to have no on site prepared food but if they can bring the food already prepared and packaged - that’s most important
Are you looking at online platforms as a market or as vendors?
re: meeting again
Yes to meeting again!
Check out LocalLine as an online platform - they have one that is set up for markets
Thank you all for great ideas!
Yes lets meet sooner because I heard PA is going to move to shelter in place over the weekend
Thank you everyone
Thank for iPad- Claire on behalf of Kennett Market
Not sure if that is true or not.
Thank you for doing this!!!
This email was forwarded to me, how can I get on the email list?
Thank you Brian!!
Thank you, this gave me a lot to think about and discuss with my board
