just testing--i'm new to this--did this work?
It did work Heather.
I don't have audio, but that's probably an issue with my browser. Sam (HTC Tiverton)
Sam, you may have to go to settings for that, AND, we are all muted right now by Kristin.
FMLA = Family and Medical Leave Act
Check the reminder of tonight's meeting that Kristin sent this afternoon for a link to Neal McNamara's memo
Thanks Dena. The memo is a pdf linked in the first part of the emaill
I did not receive the email for this meeting, could it be sent --firstname.lastname@example.org
(That ugly URL should get you to the memo.)
thank you Bishop
Della Wager Wells
Canon Dena, could you please post a link to the CARES Act application for the payroll loan?
Della, I don’t think we have it posted online yet. (Just received it this afternoon.) We’ll put it up along with other docs on a special page on the diocesan website.
Hope to have that available in the next day (or so…)
We will send out a follow up letter tomorrow with all appropriate links.
Our hourly employees are simply staying home. Not working. Work from home is not an option for them. Not sure how that applies.
If someone is furloughed, and they are eligible to apply for unemployment, doesn’t that create the same issue as laying off? I.e. that parishes would simply receive a bill for the furloughed person?
Just so you are all aware, it is my understanding that many banks will be given authority to issue these loans on behalf of the SBA. You might want to check with your local institution, it might be faster and easier. The process is supposed to be very much streamlined beyond the SBA 7a application process. There is a 30 day grace period for all to figure this out. The CARES Act is available on the US Government's website.
The Paycheck Protection Program assistance for small businesses can be found on the website for the US Department of the Treasury home.treasury.gov
Please be aware that the regulations for the CARES act are not released yet as well as the application for the SBA 7(a) loan (PPP loan) and there are some gray areas which will hopefully be cleared up in the regs which are expected on Friday.
Thanks Brenda - that’s very important point.
Correct. As son as they are released, I will inform the Bishop, Canon Dena and Dennis
What is the diocese position on accepting Venmo or Paypal for pledges?
We do both - with Diocesan blessing.
Per the SBA regarding application and required documentation: “Guidance due by 4/11/2020
The diocese accepts both, and other forms as well. We can help you get that set up if needed Brenda.
Can the diocese get a loan from the CARE Act for diocesan assessments?
We are encouraging churches to use online giving as one way to alleviate the revenue erosion Dennis is talking about.
I don’t think so Sunil. But we’ll see what we can find out.
There are loans for midsized companies no?
Thank you! We looked into Vanco but we were not sure the monthly fee would be worth it for the small volume we expected. The other options only have transactions fees and not monthly fees.
loans are available for companies with fewer than 500 employees
St Elizabeth offers Vanco to it's congregation, it does have a small monthly fee, however, it is relatively easy and recurring payments are easy to set up.
We have set up a PayPal link being sent out regulatory to our folks.
Could the diocese with all of the churches be considered as having 500 employees or less?
Sunil, we think that more relief may be available by having parishes apply individually.
For those asking about Vanco, if you use it from within Realm (church management database system), there is no monthly fee, only transaction fees, and those are pretty compet
What is the Church Insurance Agency's stance on insurance premium payments?
Della Wager Wells
On the preserving revenues question, are others getting requests from tenants to reduce rentals because the church is closed?
Dennis will cover that Rebecca.
Church Insurance is deferring the Q2 premium payments. Dennis will be covering that.
Yes - we are for the Cathedral tenants Della.
The Diocese has offered to set up an online account through Vanco if you do not already have online giving. Please email email@example.com for information
St. Mary's tenants have asked not to pay rent while building is not in use for them.
No interest on these Health and Pension payment payback right?
Thank you Canon Dena for sending that link out. The application for the PPP loan looks really simple. It looks like it will be open on 4/3 for applications. It could really help cover our payroll and utilities for a couple of months if churches can be considered like other nonprofit businesses.
I believe Church Insurance has extended deferment for 90 days
To the best of my knowledge, that's correct Sunil. I recommend confirming with Dennis--he's been gathering the details.
Dena - for the Vanco setup, will that be without monthly fees?
We are readjusting programing, doing streaming, would grants be available to churches who need equipment for streaming?
Are parish assessments to diocese in RI deferred as well?
The Vanco fees are only the transaction fee, which is just under $3 per $100 of donations. The diocese will forward the net to the church.
MIchael--not currently, but there is relief available for apportionment if needed. Dennis is talking about the process now.
That’s the Executive Committee of Diocesan Council btw.
How do you deal with new costs associated to ministry in this COVID environment? I have staff using cell phone from homes, their now have home offices. Any best practices for handling new situation.
We need to move quickly!
Please make the contingency plan summary available to everyone, if not the entire presentation.
We will Michael.
Is the CARES EIDL program recommended for churches?
For funds provided from the Diocese to individual parishes, are these active grants being considered for suspension in favor of COVID-related redeployment, or are only future grants in question? Thank you.
Employees working from home can keep receipts for office supplies purchased and percentage of time used for work on cell phones and submit them for reimbursement. Home office space is not a separate item (except for IRS purposes, and then only if it is dedicated space used for absolutely nothing else).
I just want to confirm that Revolving loan payments are deferred 1 year. Is that correct?
Jack, yes that is the plan.
Peter, thank you.
Thank you for your presentation, Dennis. It made me nostalgic for Diocesan Council!
Do I understand that the best way to apply for the Cares Act PPP loan is to go to the bank our church uses?
Ben, I believe that any grants that have already been approved will be disbursed as approved. We are earmarking the remaining income on those endowed grant funds for COVID relief, but that should not affect anything that has already been arranged.
Guidance should be out by 4/11 according to my treasurer Chris Moe, in case you missed that.
Thank you! Compline via FB Live calls. Join us on St. Michael’s FB page if you want to pray. Good bless you all and thank you!
Dennis, can we get a PDF of your most excellent presentation?
Thank you for this informational session and guidance.
Thank you, god bless.
Thanks for this informative session.
