Thanks in advance for teaching us again. Your sessions have been very instructive!
Anton Zuiker
10:43
Couple of questions for later, or one of the other sessions:
Tiffany Bisanar
10:45
how to schedule via outlook would be nice too please.
Tiffany Bisanar
13:26
Can you demonstrate again how you establish a co-host. thanks
Nicole Ponticorvo
13:35
Can you have multiple co-hosts?
Chris Lorch
16:47
May want to avoid unmuting folks without their consent – can lead to some awkward moments. Zoom does this great thing where –if you’re making noise/speaking– zoom gives you a full-screen notification that you are muted. Most times when I unmute someone, they are already actively un-muting them. So I end up re-muting them accidentally!
Chris Lorch
17:29
(They are already actively un-muting themselves* when I’m about to unmute them – so we cancel each other out)
Chris Lorch
17:56
You can, Nicole!
Anton Zuiker
17:58
1. I requested and now have the webinar feature, which we intend to use for Medicine Grand Rounds so one person can present and everyone else can watch. We’d like to prerecord a talk and show it in the webinar, then use the chat feature to allow the person to answer questions. Is this possible? Other recommended way?
Nicole Ponticorvo
18:37
Hi Anton—did your department have to pay to upgrade to webinar feature?
Chris Lorch
18:56
This is possible. How large is the expected attendance, Anton?
Anton Zuiker
19:16
yes, we are paying for the Webinar feature.
Nicole Ponticorvo
19:26
Thanks
Anton Zuiker
19:48
Thanks for answering that content sharing.
Anton Zuiker
22:30
I have Pin Video too
Anton Zuiker
24:26
2. I think you have a session about Zoom security later this week. I see the Duke page about Zoom Terms of Service, https://oit.duke.edu/help/articles/zoom-meetings-duke-terms-service, but I’m also seeing a lot of discussion online, e.g. at daringfireball, that Zoom has horrible privacy and security practices. Should we be concerned?
Anton Zuiker
24:55
Chickens, please.
Anton Zuiker
25:23
only seeing your video still
Anton Zuiker
25:26
not your page
Marquita Mangum
25:52
Do I have to download the zoom app and put my duke login in?
Chris Lorch
26:48
Cancel spotlight video – top left
Chris Lorch
27:06
Or cancel pinned video
Trina Rodriguez
27:22
Yes Marquita
Marquita Mangum
28:56
How do I access my department zoom session once I login? Do I have to have a access code?
Chris Lorch
29:42
Don’t worry Katie, we know you’re not a robot 🤖
Chris Lorch
30:54
Marquita – I recommend opening your browser and navigating to https://duke.zoom.us/
Sophie Rose
32:59
MS Teams integration, thanks
Ryn Nasser
33:09
Do we need to schedule meetings through the browser version instead of the client?
Chris Lorch
33:18
@Anton, we borrow heavily from this page: https://oit.duke.edu/help/articles/zoom-meetings-security-and-privacy-your-meetings
Anton Zuiker
33:22
ok, i’ll tune into that session.
Chris Lorch
33:42
Hope to see you there!
Nicole Ponticorvo
37:57
If you pre-assign breakout rooms, do you have to use their Duke netID email specifically?
Nicole Ponticorvo
38:20
And—if you pre-assign breakout rooms and someone gets assigned to incorrect room, can I manually put them into correct room?
Chris Lorch
41:01
Beam me up, scotty!
Chris Lorch
41:14
Nicole, you *definitely* do.
Chris Lorch
41:23
(Will want to, at least).
Chris Lorch
42:38
I recommend sharing the steps on this page Sign into Zoom Desktop with SSO (Single Sign-On, or NetID). : https://oit.duke.edu/help/articles/zoom-meetings-troubleshooting-breakout-rooms
Chris Lorch
42:52
*share these steps with your students
Chris Lorch
43:18
😊 no problem
Nicole Ponticorvo
43:35
What makes it tough?
Nicole Ponticorvo
44:50
for everyone at Duke, their Duke account requires them to use their net ID sign in, right?
Nicole Ponticorvo
44:57
thanks!
Nicole Ponticorvo
45:13
if someone winds up in an incorrect pre-assigned breakout room, can you move them manually to correct room?
Chris Lorch
45:29
To put it Kindly, even if students *say* they’ve signed in with their NetID, we’ve found 50-30% haven’t actually done it. Students aren’t always as savvy as you might think!
Chris Lorch
45:59
You can move them, Nicole. So as long as the majority make it into the right group, it’s not too onerous to fix the stragglers.
Nicole Ponticorvo
47:30
Got it, thanks
Nicole Ponticorvo
47:45
Can you repeat where to find outlook add on?
Nicole Ponticorvo
48:29
(from the box with the little dots on left of screen)
Anton Zuiker
49:47
Question: Sometimes people call in with their cell phone, and I see only the phone number. If I know a name that goes with the phone number, can I change the person’s name in the Participant’s list?
Chris Lorch
50:23
@Anton: yes, if you are the meeting host or co-host, you can mouse over their name in the participants list and select “Rename."
Trina Rodriguez
50:26
Yes you can rename participants in the participant list
Heidi Pongracz
51:59
Is there a way to save certain settings when scheduling a meeting, ie, enabling waiting room, requiring a passward for meeting?
Melissa Neeley
54:28
What are some good reasons for using Waiting Room
Melissa Neeley
55:34
Is there a good suggestion for how to direct to 5 or more different speakers during presentations?
Anton Zuiker
56:05
If I am using my personal meeting room, is there a time limit for how long it can stay open? That is, can I be in there for 8 hours straight while I have people coming in and out for conversations?
Chris Lorch
56:06
1 sec!
Melissa Neeley
56:59
I keep thinking of the IT person (Owner, Alternate-Host or Co-Host) doing those logistics , making speakers “Co-Hosts” as they enter…
Anton Zuiker
59:36
I’ve been using the Reactions thumbs-up but what do you see when I do that?
Chris Lorch
59:45
*always* schedule a test session the day before :)
Chris Lorch
01:00:45
(If inexperienced Zoom-ers will be presenting).
Anton Zuiker
01:00:48
I agree, Katie, that’s how we did a large town hall last week.
Anton Zuiker
01:01:49
Found it is good to have at least 1 Alternative Host, who can help make the co-hosts during meeting, as well as a MC or discussion moderator who can monitor the chat and decide which questions to ask and who to call on.
Melissa Neeley
01:02:33
Yes, we have a test run planned
Melissa Neeley
01:03:37
Another related question - maybe for Trina
Chris Lorch
01:04:22
Note: Zoom webinar roles are different than Zoom meeting roles.
Anton Zuiker
01:04:40
Thanks for clarifying roles, very helpful.
Chris Lorch
01:04:42
Alt hosts are mainly different from co-host in that they can start meetings.
Chris Lorch
01:05:32
I believe that when the main Host shows up, they take on main host privileges. Is that right?
Nicole Ponticorvo
01:06:00
Thank you—I have to run to another meeting!
Chris Lorch
01:06:10
(And the alt/co-hosts are demoted to co-host)
Trina Rodriguez
01:06:49
Thank you for joining our session on Zoom: Next Level today. If you are interested in getting a recording of this session please email Trina.rodriguez@duke.edu.
Anton Zuiker
01:06:58
Another great session. Many thanks!
Chris Lorch
01:07:12
Thanks!
