Data coaching is vital and a strong commitment to professional development and DIS groups will be important to understanding how your program impacts vulnerable groups on your campus especially

Excellent point Matt. There are missed opportunities if we are limiting the review of our programs to the major requirements. By including the courses are students take from Comm studies as a non-major program requirement or GE requirement, we will have better understanding what our students are experiencing and where improvements/support is needed.

Hi Nili, There are colleges considering this. Kim Nickell from Bakersfield College has been very proactive in this area

At East Los Angeles College, the comprehensive program review has asked about collaboration with other departments. As we approach our next comprehensive program review, we will want to ensure program review builds upon meta-majors, equity plan activities, and academic & student support services.

At East LA, each department/unit completes the comprehensive every 6-7 years and the follow up with annual updates that are more focused.

I love Suzanne's inquiry idea. This is in line with the more qualitative approach that GP informed program review should have

I agree - great input thank you

Love the student take away concept. They need to know the competencies and how they link to the program as a whole and employment.

Sharing Monica Zarske's comment to panelists with all attendees Fourth Pillar should revolve about how outcomes assessment results are linked with resources, instructional interventions and reporting on programmatic improvements as a result. Outcomes assessment should inform Program Review planning processes. Focus on specific competencies per program, need to be a focal point of student engagement.

Sharing Suzanne Wakin's comments to panelists with all attendees It would be nice if Program Review was more inquiry based. So, we ask questions that matter to the department. Currently, it is a single format regardless of the program. This variation would add complication but it would make the program review more useful

I would choose to have EOPS and CalWORKs in my program review so I could understand how my program to meet the needs of these students.
Suzanne Wakim
01:09:21
Would this mean that student services would be on ALL the program reviews for all instructional areas? This seems like a big ask. It's a great idea, but I'm wondering about the logistics

Working with Career Services SHOULD be a given - thanks for bringing it up
Suzanne Wakim

That makes sense - thanks. Cross-functional teams would be a great strategy.

Luke Lara asked "How are meta-majors being incorporated into program review?" For us, we have a community that is looking at a manageable number of students. So when we began our program review we knew faculty in other disciplines to discuss things with and we invited key disciplines to come to our department meetings. We also have embedded student service people both faculty and classified that we invited and interviewed. They actually liked having input that then validates their input and documents it.

Yes but the speed dating is a start. You can begin and then find out how to change the work.
