Good afternoon, thank you for having us.

15:46
will there be any big changes to safety coming out this year we need to be on the lookout for..

22:29
Robert, I don't anticipate any big changes coming this year. I am aware of some minor updates and we will keep you updated.

30:43
UL 325 and ASTM is not voluntary. It is required by Section 3110 of 2015 IRC.Al Stasiulewicz Building Inspector for the City of Grand Rapids MI

37:13
There is a problem with new construction sites and a GC will have 5 different people work on that gate.

38:48
One will do wiring, one operator, one fencing, one access control. So there is a problem when a gate is a year old and it breaks. Fence folks do not know all of these regulations. There needs to be control when the gates are installed.

40:55
please email me this presentation to share with my group. thank you.

42:44
Why does ASTM state fence w/ razor ribbon can be installed 8' o/a but on automatic gates, its's 9' o/a?

45:38
Is there a stipulation on protrusions that if something extends past the end of the gate it is ok as long as it is 9 square inches or greater? I thought I read that at one time.

45:44
The same applies to those just supplying the access control (Call box, keypad, card reader, etc). If it's wired to (attached) it

45:55
is part of the "system as a whole".

46:13
zmoore, the standard for automatic gates is a minimum of 8' above grade for razor ribbon. If local code/AHJ requirements state 9', you should build to that standard.

46:55
Will this training go towards continuing education hours that are needed to maintain a CAGSD certification?

47:49
Asheville Fence - You are correct, I believe we have a slide on this. The exclusion is there to allow locks like maglocks or solenoid locks.

48:40
RGravens - Yes, this class will count for 2 hours of CEU's.

49:58
Home Depot sales 2 1/4 wooden balls... we use them on every gate

01:11:31
horizontal swing gate fall over is this for commercial and residential code?

01:13:14

01:13:15
vincorvaia - fall over protection for swing gates applies to commercial and residential.

01:13:34
Article I was just sent today!!

01:13:56
very informative, thanks!

01:14:33
Thanks Tim

01:26:33
If you touch it last are you liable even if you did not do the original installation in the event of an accident?

01:28:33
Great thanks

01:30:04
^^- We MFG reps advised of this, needs to meet minimum UL325/ASTMF2200 requirements or we can not be there.

01:31:59
If we run into one that is not compliant we either do not work on it or if we do diagnosis the gate we will note what needs to be done for compliance and note on our invoice that we left the gate powered off. That way if they turn the gate back on you leave the liability on someone else and not your company.

01:42:49
What kind of a statement is that? I’ll let you make the judgement on that?

01:43:08
Is the operator an entrapment point or not?

01:44:00
Sorry

01:44:46
Will gate operators include an edge that attaches to the housing?

01:46:34
Thanks for the clarifications.

01:46:55
Great questions!- we appreciate them

01:50:20
please define "monitored" again

01:51:39
monitored = electronic not human?

01:52:54
got ya - thanks

01:55:37
Curbs count.

01:55:47
:)

01:56:12
You knew I was going to call that one out too.

01:57:24
Is the draw in post protection required by building code ?

01:57:47
Is the edge mounted on the side of the gate or the bottom on the bottom of a swing gate?

02:00:19
Can you go back to that slide with the edge on the bottom of the gate?

02:00:58
If you use a photo eye, non contact this does not apply.

02:01:45
Read the first sentance

02:02:02
I've seen photo eyes mounted to the moving panel, works well where edges are impractical.

02:02:06
We have mounted a photo on the gate

02:06:18
Question - Zach, How does the industry perceive Compliance -- System as a whole, or just the gates? IE - I'm contracted to work on the Access Control only, different company handles the gate/operator. Am I liable for safety if the Gate/Operator is out of compliance?

02:07:50
Does that mean that on a standard 4 leaf swing gate set we are required to install 8 signs?

02:10:19
Zing.. Thanks @zach.

02:11:36
so the entry and exit do not have to have separate signs?

02:12:19
Each "set" of openings would need a sign on each side of the respective gates

02:12:51
Entry and Exit would each need signs

02:14:16
thank you

02:14:45
What about arms going through the vertical pickets of a moving gate

02:17:08
are these slides available?

02:17:10
Thank you for the webinar.
