Hi, Lei Wang. Many researchers use music or even movie clips to evoke emotions in their subjects, while recording the subjects' brain electrical signals to study the brain mechanisms of emotion (you may search them by “emoiton”&”eeg”&”music” in google scholar). There are three elements, emotional triggering material, self-reported emotional states, and biomarkers. In fact, in affective neuroscience, we are at the stage where self-reported emotional states are the true ground for the other two, not the opposite.
