45:06
PSAT

45:26
I fixed the volume, thanks!

45:59
Yes - I f your student has not received them; contact us. She should be able to access them through her College Board account

46:12
can you display the presentation

46:34
thank you, Mrs. Hoehn, Sophie has tried and her scores were not posted.

47:14
The Power Point is on the screen. If you cannot access it, it will be posted on our website soon.

47:38
The PowerPoint is available on the SJCP website

47:43
for download

47:54
Have Sophie email us or stop by and we will check to see if we have them in the counseling office

47:58
You just have to change the view of your zoom to see it.

48:13
Thanks Mr. Fleming!

48:35
thank you, Mrs. Hoehn, Sophie will come by on Wednesday. (holiday Monday)

49:19
When do you expect that colleges will announce that they are SAT-optional for 2022? i.e. would we know by July?

49:24
Great - I will make note of it

50:27
Every college will be different - we cannot predict that. This year test optional notifications were announced from early summer to late fall.

52:52
I should also mention that some colleges are test optional always, not only as a result of Covid. You can learn more about the admissions requirements on a college's website under admissions.

56:38
Are you planning to host an SAT day at school in the Spring like we tried to do last year?

57:16
Yes - we are hoping to do so!

58:10
Is the mandatory April 27th SAT 'official'?

58:21
will it be reported to CollegeBoard?

58:23
Yes

58:49
So what is advantage of taking March SAT, test? practice?

01:00:05
Many advantages including home school, familiar setting, course work - math and language with be fresh in their brains, and scores are not automatically sent to colleges.

01:00:39
Sorry for my typos! Typing fast!!

01:01:09
No judgement on typo's

01:01:28
Thanks for understanding!

01:18:51
Are standardized tests always required for merit scholarships?

01:22:10
Which is preferred by colleges, AP, Dual Enrollment, or earing college credit while in high school?

01:23:30
Mrs. Hoehn will answer these questions shortly

01:24:01
Good question Mrs. Glover. It depends on the college.

01:24:06
to A Glover: I just went through this with my 2020 grad (SJCP) and was told they weigh it holistically. but it did matter to schools like VT, GT and Purdue, they would prefer college courses take at the college over AP

01:24:40
Thanks for your patience everyone! Test scores are ot always required for merit scholarships. It varies from college to college.

01:24:49
Great! Thank you!

01:25:42
More selective schools tend to like the AP courses over college credits. Schools definitely are looking at 4 year university college credits different than a community college credit. Some schools won't take other university credits-- for example Wake Forest was not interested in our Mount credits.

01:26:21
Mr. Fleming's answer was perfect! Would you like a job in the counseling office Mr. Fleming? :)

01:26:49
Upon reviewing a few websites, e.g., UMD, they are only announcing tests as optional for Spring 2021 and Fall 2021. I guess too early to tell for our 2022 grads.

01:26:57
thanks Mrs. Hoehn.. I wear the scars!

01:27:25
Remember if you have good scores on the tests, they could be worth submitting.

01:27:56
a differentiator?

01:28:16
We did have an acceptance to Cornell this year and the student is doing her senior year through the full-time Mount Saint Mary's program.

01:29:59
It varies from school to school and it is best for the student to review criteria and speak with their college admissions counselor if the student is unsure as to whether submit test scores. It may also vary year to year, especially during Covid.

01:31:54
just a note, a little surprised that Wake Forest, a liberal arts school, wasn't interested in MSM courses, but schools like Cornell, RPI, Purdue, VT, GT would accept most of the full-time MSM course for their engineering colleges

01:32:25
Explain what a Common Application is?

01:32:56
Good to know Wake Forest is one of the schools we are looking at!

01:36:04
This seems like a lot of pressure for a senior

01:36:52
The great thing is Mrs. Hoehn and Ms. Anders will help them navigate the whole process!

01:37:18
Overall, regarding Dual-enrollment, Full time MSM, transfer credits from Community Colleges and AP options, the best bet is to check with colleges directly. In general, the colleges want to see that students are challenging themselves and being successful.

01:37:44
Yes, after your one-on-one meeting and you get back to school in the fall, you will feel much better because the counselors will be there to help every step of the way.

01:38:03
will we be able to get a copy of this webinar or the slides

01:38:08
hav e the two of them to pilot through at the same time

01:38:44
As Mrs. Anders stated at the beginning of the presentation, we are available to support our students to lessen the pressure. As Mrs. Anders stated, the majority of students will be accepted to many schools of their choice.

01:39:57
I know that it can sound overwhelming when it is new and unfamiliar, but we help the students take things step by step.

01:42:13
Also, to note: Colleges will start asking for applications before we get back to school in the fall. Don’t freak out like I did. You have plenty of time and the counselors are ready to help the seniors, day one when we get back in the fall.

01:42:58
Thanks Beth!

01:43:26
Thank you! You calmed me down once I knew what they were doing!

01:55:56
For more selective schools is it usually better to present a well-rounded application, or one that demonstrates a specific focus on a particular major or area of study?

01:59:22
The general answer is a well-rounded application, however, if a student is applying to a particular program within the school, the well-rounded application should also focus on the particular intended field of study. Again, it is best to research each school individually and their admissions requirements.

02:03:09
I realize that answer may sound contradictory, Colleges like to see well-rounded students, but schools within a college, like engineering, for example, may have additional requirements or there may be an additional part of the application process so a student can hi-light he accomplishments within the specific area.

02:04:40
The webinar will be posted on our website.

02:26:47
