Need clear, detailed info on immediate unemployment benefits for staff affected
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
10:50
Why has the state not put out a message around bars/restaurants. Staff has major concerns around what is right and wrong. We heard yesterday the governers office has heard from a dr that they are not recommending closure but without saying that in the public it's creating a lot of problems with staff, especially front of house.
Wes Hamilton
10:59
Prospects of business aid that is not loans with interest to be paid
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
11:01
Of course we have the same concerns

Will the state of VT waive the waiting period for unemployment filing so employees can get money faster??

Should we wait to fill out that application considering we’re just now starting to see the impact with closures happening Fri, etc…
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
13:38
Is there or how do we create a single place for all resources available to employees?
Josh O'Gorman

16:02
Echo Wes question

16:11
I'd love to hear how some of the smaller lodging facilities are handling this. Is anyone putting a block to avoid additional rentals at this time?

Echoing Mark’s concern here.
Heather Snyder and Toby Merk at Red Barn Realty
17:09
Ashley, we are considering insisting on longer rentals to limit exposure for cleaning crews
Wes Hamilton
17:11
Echo mark’s concerns
Cynthia Ryan
17:15
Agree with Mark

17:18
What about taxes due? Any help with local taxes due to the town of Stowe?
Ashley Getty
18:14
Thanks Heather! I'm most concerned about housekeeping and am trying to understand the impact of blocking additional rentals.
Theresa
18:39
The Joint Rules Committee is meeting daily. The Senate is also considering how and when to reconvene to consider legislation. We are also waiting for additional federal guidance that could be incorporated into legislation.
Rachel
19:53
What is the role then of our representatives in washington??? Why are we not hearing anything from them?
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
19:57
How do we better communicate this to business owners, so we can understand any delay in legislation
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
22:37
how quickly?
Glenn
24:01
As.we.pay.unemployment.benefits…will.it.then.effect.our.annual.contribution.rate??
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
25:29
We need that protection today
Rachel
26:11
Can the Governor issue an executive order about the UI rating?
Theresa
26:47
There is definitely legislative intent that the business rating would be addressed in legislation. Also, to reiterate, the state’s unemployment fund is stable
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
28:14
what about a freeze on rooms and meals tax penalty for a period of time for late payments, say 120 days of no penalty to act as a short term loan
Wes Hamilton
28:45
agree with res/bench/tres on m&r freeze
Jasmin DOS GER
28:54
Can insight be given on Wes Question from above? "where are things with a pause on rent/mortgages/utility bills both individuals and small biz?'
Theresa
29:39
we don’t have something specific on. rent/mortgages/utility bills but will raise the issue

ACCD impact report seems premature what is their timing on needing that feedback?
Tom Stevens
31:06
We have draft language that would prevent evictions and utility cut-offs, but it needs to have action taken on it.
katrinaveerman
31:25
UI benefits - any plan for folks who are still working but with a significant pay cuts? IE is their any benefit for our folks who are working?

Green Mountain Power has suspended collections presently,
Rachel
34:22
I would encourage us to stick to questions regarding relief and government information. We could organize another call with businesses of Revitalizing Waterbury and Stowe Area Association
Heather Snyder and Toby Merk at Red Barn Realty
34:57
We are telling present guests where they can find take out meals. We need to know which restaurants are able to provide that option.
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
35:09
what about property tax relief if we are forced to close. the value of our buildings goes to zero if we can not do business for whatever period of time that is.
owner
35:56
We have some employees who have no problem not coming in and taking time off, even without us making a decision to close or not
Ashley Getty
36:10
I would love to see a call scheduled for small businesses to have this discussion with SAA and other agencies.
owner
36:29
Does that qualify for benefits? or do we need to do a formal layoff and actually close?
Theresa
40:25
We will bring the question about waiving penalties on R&M back to the Ways and Means. Committeee
Jasmin DOS GER
40:36
I agree with Ashley . SAA call needs to happen sooner rather than later.

Ashley, we also have a number of owners blocking out their properties for their own use so they can avoid metropolitan areas.
Stowe Resort Homes
43:14
Mark has a valid point. Instead of applying for SBA relief loans and waiting for approval, deferring R&M and/or property tax payments without penalty will give business owners the working capital we need to keep as many employees employed for as long as we can, during this critical time.

I fear with the state not coming out with daily recommendations surrounding food/beverage and giving owners as much of a heads up surrounding these releases we are struggling with what is right/wrong. We are all watching the news and seeing other states close restaurants and bars for periods of time. We need the state to communicate more about the calculated safety with allowing us to stay open. None of us want to think we are taking too high of a risk to spread this disease. We have many staff concerned with a drastic reduction in income so we are staying open but for how long???
Theresa
50:01
Mark, this is the question we are trying to get answers from the Health Department. we hope to get an answer this afternoon
Reservoir/Bench/Tres
52:00
We need the health department to put out a daily recommendation for daily operations moving forward
George Lewis, Brass Lantern Inn
52:15
That question from Mark regarding open/closed is critical for all in hospitality.
owner
52:21
Unrelated…isn - But is the plan also that right at we’re in the thick of this, contrustion work will start up a the same time from last year and add to injury? Or has there been plans for that to change?
owner

*construction
Heather Snyder and Toby Merk at Red Barn Realty
53:42
Also very concerned about income for our independent contractors who would not be covered by UI
Matt
54:18
Are there any restaurants that have decided to close as of today?
Carrie Simmons, SAA
54:46
These are questions from Laura Vilalta at Black Cap: - is there the possibility that the unemployment benefits be covered my federal / state funds (relieve funds) instead of going against the employer’s account?- does it feel right in the community to stay open with some restrictions until they mandate us to close (I foresse that will happen at some point)?I am thinking on limiting occupancy and “asking” people to do takeout instead of staying.- i also might be forced to close if my employees decide not to work, or some get sick (even though that might not be tested, and just be a common cold or an allergy).Anybody else sharing that concern?- Are business owner insurance policies going to cover the loss of business due to coronavirus?- What is your feeling about what restaurants are going to do?
Wes Three Penny/Mad Taco
55:55
I know of several resto’s that have closed and are contemplating, my resto’s moved to just take out today, over 50% of our sales are alcohol and this move will have enormous impact on our ability to survive, really expecting direct relief aid and not loan availability
Theresa
56:06
I have to get off to join a conference call on local response.
Karen Nevin
56:53
We've learned that the state is still finalizing the timing for start of construction in Waterbury.
Andrew Kneale
57:33
I think restaurant owners are torn as to what to do next. Do we stay open knowing the risks associated with it, for our staff and customers (and what does staying open look like to our staff), do we close and risk the loss of business? How long do we close for? Almost feel like we as a restaurant community need to be untied in our decision either way.
Karen Nevin
57:49
Can we set up a listserve for everyone who wants to get this information?
Ashley Getty
57:55
Can we create some sort of online forum or Facebook group so we can all communicate and share feedback and information?
Rachel
58:47
For sharing of business information I asked Carrie and karen from SAA and RW to set up a business call on sharing information about opening/closing.

We spoke with our insurance company two weeks ago, and there is no coverage for loss of income or business for a virus. The only way you will know this is to file a claim and let them deny it because there are other variables that are involved that may allow coverage
Main Street Alliance Vermont
01:07:00
HI Steve - if you can put your questions in the google sheet, that would be very helpful for tracking purposes
