Early environmental chaos often leads to seemingly uncontainable aggression. This seminar will focus on the challenges of moving from action to play and words in analytic work with children. Dr. Shaw will present detailed process material from the analysis of an explosive, erratic child whose early life was riddled with ruptures. Dr. Miller will facilitate a discussion of both this case and of the larger technical and conceptual issues involved. In particular, the discussion will address the interface between limit-setting, interpretation, and play in responding to aggressive action within the analytic context.
